Albany is a city in the state of Texas in the United States. It is the county seat of Shackelford County.[4] About 1,854 people lived there in 2020.[5] The city was named after Albany, Georgia.[4] The Cook oilfields were discovered in 1926.[4] They became a large part of the local economy. Ranching is the main occupation, raising sheep and cattle. The town slogan is "Albany, the Home of the Hereford."[4]
