Ali Hassan Mwinyi (8 May 1925 – 29 February 2024) was a Tanzanian politician.[1] He was the second President of Tanzania from 1985 to 1995.[1] Before that he had been Interior Minister and Vice President.[1] He also was chairman of the ruling party, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) from 1990 to 1996.[1]

Mwinyi was born in Kivure, in the Pwani Region. He died of lung cancer at a hospital in Dar es Salaam, on 29 February 2024, at the age of 98.[2][3]
