This comprising are three phyla:
- Cilaiates, very common protozoa, with many short cilia arranged in rows
- Apicomplexa, parasitic protozoa that lack locomotive structures except in gametes
- Dinoflagellate, mostly marine flagellates, many of which have chloroplasts
