The arrondissement of Mâcon is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Saône-et-Loire département in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its capital, and prefecture of the department, is the city of Mâcon.

When the Saône-et-Loire department was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Mâcon was part of that original department.[2]

Geography[change | change source]

The arrondissement of Mâcon is bordered to the north by the arrondissement of Chalon-sur-Saône, to the northeast by the arrondissement of Louhans and to the west by the arrondissement of Charolles. It is also bordered by two departments of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region: the Rhône department to the south and the Ain department to the east.

It is in the southern part of the department, with an area of 1,199.6 square kilometres (463 square miles),[3] the smallest in area of the department. It has 114,063 inhabitants and a population density of 95.1 inhabitants/km².[4]
