Barclays Center is an indoor arena in Brooklyn, New York. It is about 5 miles (8.0 km) east of downtown New York City. The arena is the home court for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the arena for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). The arena was opened on September 21, 2012.[1] The arena cost more than US$1 billion to build.[2]

The first basketball game that was played there was an NBA preseason game between the Nets and the Washington Wizards on October 15, 2012.[3]

On October 24, 2012, the New York Islanders announced that they signed a 25-year deal with the arena and would be moving to the Barclays Center in 2015 after their lease of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum ends.[4] They played their first preseason game against the New Jersey Devils in a 3–0 loss.[5] The first regular season NHL game was played on October 9, 2015 against the 2015 Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks. The Islanders lost 3–2 in overtime.[6]

The arena was host to the WWE's TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view event in 2012.[7] In 2015, it hosted NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn and SummerSlam.[8][9] On September 28, 2015, WWE announced that their SummerSlam event would return to the Barclays Center in 2016 and 2017.[10]
