Sir Ben Kingsley CBE (born Krishna Pandit Bhanji, 31 December 1943) is a British actor. He was born in Snaiton, North Riding of Yorkshire and grew up in Pendlebury, Lancashire. His father was an Indian who was born in Kenya. He is best known for his role as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in Gandhi, for which he won an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award. The first movie he acted in was Fear Is the Key in 1972.
