Bipan Chandra (1928-30 August 2014[1]) was an Indian historian. He wrote about economic and political history of modern India. He specialized on the national movement and is considered to be one India's greatest scholars on Mahatma Gandhi. He wrote several books, including The Rise and Growth of Economic Nationalism.

Chandra died on the morning of 30 August 2014, at his home in Gurgaon, after a long-illness, aged 86.[2]
