Bismuth(V) oxide

Bismuth(V) oxide, also known as bismuth pentoxide, is a chemical compound. Its chemical formula is Bi2O5. It has bismuth and oxide ions in it. The bismuth is in its +5 oxidation state.

It is a scarlet red solid. It decomposes to bismuth(III) oxide and oxygen easily. It is made by electrolysis of bismuth(III) oxide in a hot concentrated alkali like sodium hydroxide.
