Buchi Emecheta

Buchi Emecheta OBE (born 21 July 1944, in Yaba near Lagos) is a Nigerian writer. Her first novel, In the Ditch, was published in 1972. Her second novel was published in 1974. The novel is set in London, where Emecheta lived when she wrote it.[1] Emecheta's most well known novel is The Joys of Motherhood.

Emecheta married Sylvester Onwordi when she was sixteen. She had two children. In 1962 she moved with her husband to London. There she had three more children.
