A chairperson (or just chair) is a person who has authority over an organised group, such as a board of directors. The chair is has authority over the organisation's administration. A chairperson often heads the board of directors in a business, company, football club or school (usually a university). If the person is a man, the word chairman is sometimes used; if the person is a woman, they are called the chairwoman.
