Chorlton-on-Medlock is a district of Manchester in England which is south of the city centre. The northern border is marked by the river Medlock. It is sometimes mistaken for Chorlton-cum-Hardy, a different place in Manchester. Chorlton-on-Medlock contains the main campuses of the University of Manchester and the Manchester Metropolitan University; also in the district are a group of hospitals including the Manchester Royal Infirmary and hospitals for women, children and the treatment of diseases of the eyes. Famous residents of Chorlton-on-Medlock include Lloyd George, Emmeline Pankhurst and Elizabeth Gaskell.
