Æthelwulf, also spelled Aethelwulf or Ethelwulf; Old English: Æþelwulf ["Noble Wolf"] (c. 795 – 858) was the elder son of King Egbert of Wessex. In 825 Æthelwulf became King of Kent after conquering it on behalf of his father[1] and, in 839, upon King Egbert's death, also inherited the Kingdoms of Wessex, Cornwall, the West Saxons and the East Saxons[2] and was crowned at Kingston upon Thames.
His children included Ethelbald of Wessex, Ethelbert of Wessex, Ethelred of Wessex and Alfred the Great.
