Summary

Author: Rocna Anchors

This is a graph of testing carried out by West Marine (an independent US ship chandler) in 2006 and written up in magazines "SAIL"[1], "Yachting Monthly", and "Power & Motoryacht". Pulls were conducted at three different locations on sand, at three different scopes (pull angles).

This test was conducted in three separate bottom conditions. To ensure fairness this chart shows averaged results as ratios of holding power to relative anchor weights. "Max Before Releasing" is the force the anchor withstood before moving (i.e. the effective holding power). "Max Pull" is the peak force measured after the anchor started moving.
