Gerard Mortier

Gerard Alfons August, Baron Mortier (25 November 1943 – 8 March 2014) was a Belgian opera director and administrator. He was the general director of La Monnaie/De Munt (1981–91) and of the Salzburg Festival of Salzburg, Austria (1990–2001). He was born in Ghent and was Flemish.

Mortier died from pancreatic cancer on 8 March 2014 in Brussels. He was 70 years old.[1]
