Involuntary celibacy or (incel)[1] is the word for someone who hasn't had sexual intercourse, but wants to, unlike religious clergy. An involuntary celibate is someone who suffers from involuntary celibacy. The phrase means involuntary, as in doesn't want to, and celibacy, which is not being in a relationship. People who are incel often try to attract a mate and improve, but don't get the opportunities to. An incel is someone who is without a relationship for a long period of time, while someone who is single for a few months is not an incel.

Problems [change]

Some problems caused by incel are depression, frustration, and loneliness. In society today, it is usually expected for people to have had sexual encounters. Peer pressure can make this worse, and can make the incels more likely to kill themselves. The longer a person is incel, the worse the problems become, and incels have a higher death rate than normal people[2].

Causes [change]

Incel can be caused by not enough social skills, charisma, disabilities, and other things like homelessness. One large cause is shyness. This is because men are usually supposed to ask a girl out, so shy men won't get as much experience. Other causes are more physical, like looks, as an person considered beautiful is more likely to date.
