James Albert "Jimmy" Ellis (February 24, 1940 – May 6, 2014) was an American heavyweight boxer. He is considered to be among the best boxers of all time. He held the WBA World Heavyweight Championship from 1968 to 1970.

Ellis was born in Louisville, Kentucky to a Christian family. He and wife Mary had six children (two sons and four daughters).

Ellis died from problems caused by dementia on May 6, 2014 at a hospital in Louisville, aged 74.[1]
