Joshua Fishman

Joshua Aaron Fishman (Yiddish: שיקל פֿישמאַן — Shikl Fishman;[1] July 18, 1926 – March 1, 2015)[2] was an American linguist. He specialized in the sociology of language, language planning, bilingual education, and language and ethnicity.

Fishman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died in The Bronx, New York, aged 88.
