Kitakami city is in the southwest of Iwate prefecture on the main island of Japan.[1] Kitakami has a population of more than 93,000.[2] The city is famous for the sakura that bloom in Tenshochi Park, which is regarded as one of the hundred best places in Japan to view cherry blossoms.[1]
