[change] Early Life

Mary Boleyn was the daughter of Thomas Boleyn and Elizabeth Howard. She was born in Hever. She was kept in England until 1514, when she was fifteen. She was sent to be a maid of honor to Mary Tudor, the sister of Henry VIII, who was to be the bride of Louis XII of France. Only a few months after Mary Tudor and Louis XII married, Louis died and Francis I became king. It is highly likely that Mary Boleyn became Francis I's mistress, for later he called her "a great whore, the most infamous of them all."

[change] 1520s

Mary was sent back to England when her parents found out about her affair in France, but she ended up being the mistress of Henry VIII. In this time, it is possible that Mary gave birth to two of Henry VIII'S children, Catherine Carey and Henry Carey, but it is more likely that her children where actually her husband's, William Carey, whom she married in 1520.

[change] Sister's rise to power

After Mary's husband died, Mary's luck ran out. Her sister took her place to the King's heart and later they married. After this, Mary became really poor. She took comfort with another man, William Stafford, who also was poor. They married for love and this angered Anne Boleyn, who banished her from court. They had two children, although neither lived past childhood.

[change] After her sister's downfall

After Anne Boleyn was executed, Mary and William Stafford lived comfortably until Mary's death in 1543, outliving all of her siblings.
