Melinda [ muh-lin-duh ][1] is a girl name derived from Greek word meli (that means "honey"). Melinda is a timeless name that has been in existence for centuries. Its history is steeped in richness and meaning. Originating from Greece, the name Melinda signifies "sweetness" or "honey." It is a name that frequently evokes feelings of kindness, empathy, and affection.The name is extremely popular in certain countries.[2] However, in the United States, the name peaked at 72 in popularity, and has been on the gradual decline since the 1970s. The name was first used in the year 1815 by József Katona. Examples of the name for famous persons include Melinda Gates (who is wife for Bill Gates). This is a unique name (not in the top 1000 newborn names in the US in 2021).[3]
