Rhône-Alpes is a region of France. Its capital is Lyon. Six million people live in the region. About 1.6 million people live in the urban area of Lyon. Another 900,000 live in the urban areas of Grenoble and Saint-Étienne.

The departments in the region are Ain, Ardèche, Drôme, Isère, Loire, Rhône, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie.

This region is the one most in competition as to industrial output with the Île-de-France.[source?]
