Saarijärvi is a city in central Finland. The municipalities next to it are Kannonkoski, Karstula, Multia, Soini, Uurainen, Ähtäri and Äänekoski.

Saarijärvi has been city since 1986. However, there has been people living here for 6,000 years. In 1749, Vanha Saarijärvi had populatoin of 1,380. The largest population was in 1870 when it was 14,000.
