Shakhriyar Mamadyarov [1] (born 12 April 1985 in Sumgayit, Azerbaijan), is a chess grandmaster. On the January 2008 FIDE rating list he reached number six in the world with a rating of 2760. He is known for being an excellent chess strategist. "His unique style of play never fails to amaze his often surprised chess opponents".[2][3]
Now 27, the next few years will be critical for his chess career.
