Simplify[change source]

This is basically a copy and paste job from the English wikipedia article. It is far too detailed and contains too many technical terms. Needs to be greatly reduced in size. Shadow007 00:14, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Whoa, okay but just don't get carried away too far. I'll maybe try to get someone to simplify this article okay? But at least I did the hard part of the job. --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 04:53, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't having a go. Was just providing the justification for tagging it. Shadow007 08:22, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but I'll try to fix it. --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 08:28, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alastor, you need to realise that on the Simple English wiki, you can't just take chunks from enwiki and paste here, because this is a wiki for those who are not as proficient in English. To the dissenter: I've re-written Alberto. Hopefully this is better. If it is, Alastor could perhaps try to use Alberto's section as an example. Chacor 16:45, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Alberto section is still not simple enough. It doesn't make any explanation of "extratropical", "depression", etc. This phrase - "unhelpful environmental conditions", still seems a bit complicated. RaNdOm26 11:28, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"Depression" is the most basic term there is. With jargon there's bound to be a minimum level, and that is it. I tried to explain extratropicality simply as "it was no longer tropical", to go any further would make it even more complicated than simple due to the jargon involved. "Unhelpful environmental conditions" was previously something about wind shear, if there's a better term, then go ahead and use it. Chacor 15:08, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Best thing is create an article for "tropical depression", "extratropical cyclone" and friends. Then provide a link in the season page. Anyway, there's barely any cyclone articles around here!!!!! hahaha RaNdOm26 16:25, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The best I can do about "depression" is to describe the wind speeds, but that doesn't explain the other necessary info (a normal storm with 30 kt winds is not necessarily a tropical depression). Like I mentioned above re. extratropical cyclone, to expand much on this would be overly complicated, again because we're dealing with scientific technicalities regarding tropicality. Chacor 08:59, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So suggest a new article for depression and extratropical cyclone, that's what I said before. RaNdOm26 05:43, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Now what? You think you know so much about everything, and you are not even helping?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! RaNdOm26 10:30, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Initally, in the general Englsik Wikipedia, the terms, "tropical depressions", "tropical storms", "hurricanes", "typhoons", and "cyclonic storms" all redirect to one main srticle, tropical cyclone since there is no need to create multiple articles on very similar topics. Also this wikipedia ain't as great as the genreal en wikipedia and we are rather focusing on core articles, not secondary articles or anything else. But stuff like tropical cyclones, subtropical cyclones, and extratropical cyclones all warrant for seperate articles. --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 05:19, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This says that it is still going on. Obviously it is not, seeing as it's 2007 now.APT41790 23:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Must be out of date. Totnesmartin 12:02, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
