A reconstruction of Holt Castle in 1495

Would the video on the right be useful for this article? It's a tour of a castle in Wales built in the late 13th-century as it may have appeared c1495. Disclosure: it was produced for the Castle Studies Trust, for whom I am a trustee. Richard Nevell (talk) 21:57, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • All the visual media we use is from Wikipedia Commons [1]. You would need to go there and become familiar with their ways. Assuming the Trust's committee gave its approval, you could then upload the video onto Commons. Then we could use it. We don't use any graphic of any kind that is not on Commons. But, note, the process of putting the video onto Commons would have the effect of making it copyright free to any user. It would be available to anyone. That is why it would need the official approval of the Trust's committee. Macdonald-ross (talk) 19:58, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so I've put it in towards the end of the article. Thank you. Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:57, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Richard Nevell (talk) 18:07, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article does not have encyclopedic tone.[change source]

"Really they were just great big houses."

That's not grammatically correct and the article as a whole reads more like a children's book. — This unsigned comment was added by 23.119.204.117 (talk • changes) at 00:21, 21 November 2015‎ (UTC).[reply]

Rewrite[change source]

Hello, I've drafted a rewrite in my sandbox. I've tried to used simple language and summarise things briefly so it is quite short. As with the post two threads up, I'm involved with the Castle Studies Trust who produced the video I'm suggesting would go with the lead so I want to check that's ok. I also (for the time being) work for English Heritage who run Dover Castle and Kenilworth Castle which are both mentioned in the article. Hopefully that's not an issue, but I thought it best if I mention that too in case someone wants to comment. Richard Nevell (talk) 21:29, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jim.henderson: @Clementina: @Macdonald-ross: Hi folks, since you've edited the article over the last few years, I was wondering if you had any thoughts about my suggestion above. Thanks, Richard Nevell (talk) 22:51, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like improvement to me. Sorry to be so late and so superficial, but I haven't been home for long, after two busy weeks in Cape Town. Simple moved far down my priority list during that time.
@Jim.henderson: Every bit helps, so thanks for taking a look! Though I've been around Wikimedia for a while I haven't done much with Simple so even something which might feel superficial to you is useful to know that I'm broadly on the right track. Hope you enjoyed Cape Town, did you happen to be at Wikimania? Richard Nevell (talk) 09:53, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Richard Nevell: Nowadays the Wikimania selection committee directs my travel. Arrive early for a few days as a tourist, then Wikimania, then a few more days of tourism, including Castle Good Hope. WM discussed many topics; I didn't hear or speak a word about Simple. I should make a personal report on my ENWP userpage. Jim.henderson (talk) 13:55, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a sensible plan, it's worth making the most of trips like that. Nice to meet others and talk Wikimedia, but also good to good to take some time and have a proper look round. Richard Nevell (talk) 21:02, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
