Was a Freikorps the personal army of a rich man ?[change source]

Was the first Freikorps, the personal army of Frederick II of Prussia? It sounds like Frederick used his own money to give men jobs. The job of soldier in his army. And then later, the same word is used for the personal armies of rich men. But the article doesn't talk about this idea of a rich man raising an army, and paying the soldiers himself (that I can see). I ask because the word sounds like Frei(drick II)'s Korps.
