Format for references[change source]

The format for references should not depend on the source, but on our house style (such as it is).

  1. Do not carry over excessive capitalisation from source. In English only initial letters of sentences and proper nouns should be in upper case. Except for some acronyms, whole words should never be rendered in upper case.
  2. Do not include month in date of publication; year only is our house style. Never mind that the template has a month slot, just don't use it.
  3. The reason why surname first is preferable for reference names is that reference lists are often visually searched by first author surname. They are most visible when placed on the left. So, "McKay, Robin" not "Robin McKay". Second and succeeding names are not critical, and are variable in WP but, personally, I keep the same format all the way through.
