No discussion so far about the Neutrality tag, I will remove it in 7 days if no discussion --Chosongul 19:43, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removing the tags won't make it neutral. We need to think about what writing in "neutral" (NPOV) language is, which article this surely isn't. Blockinblox 20:00, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How about, Guantanamo bay is an American navy base, which is used as a prison camp for rebel fighters? --Chosongul 16:25, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When writing about it, we need to consider two aspects:

  1. The geographical one (Bay in the south of Cuba, currently about half of it controlled by the US)
  2. Military installation on that territory, claimed by the US. Possibly mention that there is a legal dispute if the claim was legal or not. Also possibly mention that the military installation is used for questioning people held by the us. These people are not treated as POWs, but illegal combattants; which is a possible violation of the Geneva conventions. Also, US legislation only partly applies to these people held.

In the English wikipedia, those are two separate articles -- Eptalon 16:37, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I replaced what was originally there by a possible stub -- Eptalon 16:58, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[change source]

I hope I've solved the long-running sources and neutrality problem here, I've added four articles by respected Newspapers and Agencies from outside the US. --Chosongul 13:36, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for those sources. If you feel like it, extend the article further. But keep my comment made Nov. 12 in mind. --Eptalon 20:56, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Somehow some of those sources didn't make it into the latest version. I have added some references where they were indicated. Sue W 01:07, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have made an attempt to clean this up a bit and make it more balanced. What can we now do to remove teh NPOV label? Sue W 01:59, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page name[change source]

Silly point, but given that only the openning line is actually about the actual Guantanamo Bay, and the rest is all about Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, shouldn't this article be moved to that title with redirect from here? -- Creol(talk) 02:27, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Work done[change source]

So that we can better focus, I did the following:

  • Moved the original Guantanamo Bay article here (Guantanamo Bay Naval Base)
  • Created (in fact: copied from en, and simplified) the article about the geographical bay (Which is at Guantánamo Bay
  • Created a disambiguation page, that also includes the Cuban province, and its capital city.
  • Made a redirect from Guantanamo bay (to the geographical bay article)
