Some explanation of changes to the Ichthyosaur pages: Unlike the Sauropterygians, the Ichthyosaurs are one unified group. Nothing is gained by having a series of pages runing Ichthyopterygia > Ichthyosauria > Ichthyosaurus... when dealing with a group all of which are so similar. So I propose to put all the main stuff into "Ichthyosaur", with redirects from higher categories, and some individual genera remaining as is. I'm going to put a work in progress flag up, so this is just to let you know what's happening. Naturally, anyone is free to have their say! I guess the guiding idea is that the many layers of taxonomy can and should be telescoped if this fits well with the natural history of the actual species concerned. Everything will be based on reliable sources. Macdonald-ross (talk) 14:01, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
