This holiday was NOT introduced in the US! In 1910 Clara Zetkin had the idea to celebrate a holiday especially for women but she didn't prefer any special date. On March 8th 1917 (which was February 23th in the Russian calendar at that time) the Russian February Revolution started and because of the great part women played in this revolution the Russians decided to celebrate this holiday at that special date. So yes, it is an holiday which was invented by the communists - poor US guys... ;-p

Stories about a stand up in New York as the beginning of this holiday are untrue and were capitalistic propaganda because of the Cold War. I think it's strange that this myth is still established as I see. Sadly it is another proof for the sustainability with which US propaganda brainwashed the people of the US in the times of the Cold War and still does in our times... 94.218.210.133 (talk) 16:19, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
