Am i missing something or is there several different wikis containing fragments of information all relating to this subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.222.83.66 (talk) 22:04, 12 March 2012‎

Poor quality English on this page[change source]

Symbol's does not have an apostrophe. You never use an apostrophe for a plural; only for the possessive 'Alternate' is a verb not a noun and means to rapidly switch between two things. The noun is 'alternative'. The adjective is also 'alternative'. The adverb is 'alternatively' — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.102.10.90 (talk) 02:54, 19 February 2020‎ (UTC)[reply]

In North American english alternate also means "to take the place of" for example "the rerouted traffic takes a variety of alternate routes". -DJSasso (talk) 04:40, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Missing symbols[change source]

It’s missing so many things such as gamma function.

Also it has ∈ but not ⊂ 24.148.22.123 (talk) 23:40, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also what the heck is „these are symbols that is most commonly used in linear algebra“ is? 24.148.22.123 (talk) 23:50, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Table column labels[change source]

I find the column labels of the table on this page to be somewhat confusing and sub-optimal in terms of legibility.

The first two rows of the table are currently as follows:

Name Read as Description Meaning Example(s)
= Equality is equal to If x=y, x and y represent the same value or thing. 5(2)=10

I find this order of labels to be odd, especially the first two.

The first column is labelled 'Name', but, correct me if I'm wrong, those aren't the names of the symbols, this column contains the symbols, not the names of them.

The second column is labelled 'Read as', but that's not what the symbols are read as, that's the names of the symbol. '2 = 2' isn't typically read as '2 equality 2', it's read as '2 is equal to 2' or '2 equals 2'.

Third column is labelled 'Description', but, as with before, that's not a description, it's what the symbols are read as.

These inconsistencies aren't restricted to the first row, but continue down the whole table. In light of this, I propose the following as a better set of labels:

Symbol Name Read as Meaning Example(s)
= Equality is equal to If x=y, x and y represent the same value or thing. 5(2)=10

Please, fellow (and likely more experianced) Wikipedians, correct me on any mistakes I made or give other suggestions for column labels for I am but I a novice editor who hasn't made any major edits and am likely completely off-base. Abstractplayer (talk) 19:58, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
