Why aren't the other combination logic gates added to this page? I mean like the NOR gate, NAND gate, XOR gate and XNOR gate.

Someone didn't spend the time to add them, that's all. Each one of those gates has its own article, listed at the bottom of the article, and could easily be included in this article, if you would like to do it. Thanks for your comments. Best Wishes  :-) George Gesslein II (talk) 12:18, 13 September 2012 (UTC) P.S.: You can also find similar things over at boolean algebra, that at least includes the XOR gate.[reply]

Not a good article yet...[change source]

This was recently proposed to be a good article, but for different reasons it didn't get promoted. I just copy some of the comments, left on the discussion page:

  • There are three (or more?) notations for logic gates, they should be mentioned.
  • Some background on truth tables would be nice.
  • Karnaugh maps are a way to simplify Boolean algebra, introduced in the 1950s, they probably need mentioning
  • De Morgan's laws are used for transforming boolean terms. They are named after Augustus De Morgan, a British 19th century mathematician. They are older though, and seem to already have been known to Wililiam of Occam, who died 1347 in Munich; he is mostly known for Occam's razor though. Anyway, they probably need mentioning
  • Quine–McCluskey algorithm probably needs metioning (simplify/minimize logic terms)
  • Charles Sanders Peirce showed that it is possible to create all other kinds of gates using one type of gate alone (I think, either a NAND, or a NOR-gate). He did this at the start of the 20th century, porbably needs mentioning.
  • Flipflops and counters (among others) can be constructed with logic gates; probably needs mentioning.
  • We probably need a section that shows how this knowledge in implemented in current eleectrical circuits.

What we have at the moment is an incomplete listing of (common?) gates. No context, no history, little to no background, few references. To me, it is clear, that this won't become a good article, until most issues mentioned above are fixed.--Eptalon (talk) 08:01, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
