Requested that photo be uploaded[change source]

There is an archival photo of Malcolm Knowles at http://d.lib.ncsu.edu/collections/catalog/ua014_011-003-cn0043-053-001 which I have asked to be uploaded at Wiki Media Commons. If someone knows how to expedite that, I would appreciate some help.174.99.59.109 (talk) 03:48, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Stmullin (talk) 03:49, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

NCSU charges fees for the use of that image each time it is posted so that is not a good image to use. If someone has a suggestion for a free image, it would be helpful. Smlombardi (talk) 03:54, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for improvement, as requested[change source]

I made a few minor copy edits. I hope you don't mind.

thx (smlombardi)

I see some complex words and phrases that could be simplified or explained. They include:

 Done contributions,
 Done andragogy,
influenced,
self-directed learning,
 Done held the position

I see some terms that could be linked:

 Done draft (conscription),
Done West Palm Beach, Florida (which also needs a comma)

Content and format notes:

Done *Lower case needed: educator, masters degree
Done *Most of the sentence structure is simple enough, but there are a couple of sentences that could be split. One is the first sentence in the article. Another is the sentence that starts with "His family moved to West Palm Beach Florida". The idea is to have one idea per sentence wherever possible.
Done *Instead of "See also", the section should be called "Related pages", per Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Related pages. Actually, though, since all the links here are red, the section could just be removed. In most cases we keep red links, but in a see-also section I don't think they help the article.
Done *Instead of "External links", the section should be called "Other websites", per Wikipedia:Manual of Style#List of links at the end of an article.

General notes

Done *Wikipedia can't be used as a reference, so please remove the references that use it. You could replace them with the references used in the English Wikipedia article.
Done *The article will need categories and a defaultsort when it goes to mainspace. I suggest these categories: 1913 births, 1997 deaths, American educators, People from Montana, Harvard University alumni
Done *The attribution should go on the talk page, not the article page, so the {{enwp based}} template should be moved here.
Also, the link in the attribution goes to a diff, not to a version of the article. It go to a version of the article.
The articles on En.Wikipedia are unstable . . . so I think it might be wise to link to the dated diff of the article rather than risk having an edited version that lacks the information discussed in this article.

That's what I see right now. Let me know if you make changes and would like me to look at it again. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:01, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I enjoyed working though the corrections . . . thank you for taking the time to work with me!174.99.59.109 (talk) 05:10, 18 December 2014 (UTC)Smlombardi (talk) 05:12, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. You did good work! Here are the items I see still outstanding:
Done*The lead is all one sentence, and fairly long. It would be better split into two.
Done*The attribution should link to the version of the article that was used as a basis for the article. I didn't mean it had to link to the current version. You can get the URL of that version by going to the page's history and clicking on the date of the version that was used. It results in a link to the version of the page that existed at a specific time, so you can see what existed at the time.
Actually, I think you can get the same result by removing the "&diff=626447771" part of the URL that's here now. I'm sorry this wasn't clearer. Getting the attribution right is one of the trickier things.
?*You may have noticed that I disabled the categories. That is because those categories aren't used in userspace. When the article is moved to mainspace, they will need to be re-enabled.
?*The article still needs a defaultsort (that is all one word). It's coded like this: {{DEFAULTSORT:Lastname, Firstname}}.
Let me know if you have any questions. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:37, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'll need to observe the category and defaultsort tasks . . . not sure where, when those tasks are going to occur.Smlombardi (talk) 14:55, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Is this article ready for Mainspace?Smlombardi (talk) 15:21, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is. :) I made a couple of changes to show you what I was talking about regarding the first sentence and the defaultsort. The only things to do when it goes to mainspace are to re-enable the categories (by removing the colons before the word "Category") and remove the userspace draft notice.
I don't think most users can move pages without leaving redirects, and we don't want redirects between userspace and mainspace, so you'll need to either copy and paste the article to create a new page, or ask an admin to move it for you (I'd be happy to move it if you want). Congratulations on writng your first article! --Auntof6 (talk) 18:25, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, would you please move the article to mainspace. I reformatted some of the citations to comply with Simple Wikipedias conventions. Smlombardi (talk) 18:49, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done! --Auntof6 (talk) 19:14, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
