Barras' PGA stuff[change source]

  • The Ohio State University has been noted as one of the best universities in the United States[1] and in the world.[2] - Please define what one of the best means. Under the first 10, 25, 50 or even 100? Furthermore, the university isn't mentioned on this page. Perhabs on page 2 or 3?
  • With ref two is the same problem.
  • The school was started in 1870 in a farming community in Columbus, Ohio. - I remember a rule, which is called "place before time. And correctly it is an university, not a school.
  • graduate students - both words should be linked.
  • In 1906, Ohio made a law that said The Ohio State University was the state's "flagship campus", or the best school in the state of Ohio. - needs a ref.
  • Association of American Universities - should be linked, I guess it's important.
  • Ohio State is still the only Ohio public school in it. - University is more accurate, imo.
  • U.S. News & World Report - if the article refers to it, it should be notable and linked.
  • The part mentioned above is still pretty long and the problem with the ref.
  • faculty - should be linked.
  • Nobel Prize-winning physicist - Nobel Prize is important enough for a link.
  • Ohio State’s faculty includes a Nobel Prize-winning physicist, twenty-one members of the United States National Academy of Sciences or National Academy of Engineering, four members of the Institute of Medicine,[7] and 159 elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. - A very/too long sentence.
  • Guggenheim Fellowship - Should be important enough for a link.
  • Undergraduate admissions - link and the sentence needs a ref.
  • freshman - link.
  • All dates should be unlinked.
  • All refs need accessdate and publisher

CSection Campuses and on going later. Barras || talk 18:27, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Barras. I've fixed these things:
  • It's explained further down the page in the specific section (just summarized it in the lead), but, according to the refs, it's the 53rd in the nation and 61st in the world. In the first ref, it's mentioned on page 3 of the article, and I changed the link to direct there.
  • With ref 2, it's mentioned right there (number 61).
  • I changed "school" to "university" in all instances.
  • Both graduate and students have been linked.
  • Faculty has been linked to teacher.
  • Nobel Prize has been linked.
  • Guggenheim Fellowship and freshman have been linked, but the they don't have articles.
  • All dates have been unlinked.
  • Undergraduate, Association of American Universities, and U.S. News & World Report have been linked.
  • I added publishers and dates to all of the references, as well as make them all consistent in the {{citeweb}} form.
  • Association of American Universities was linked in the infobox, but I linked it again in prose.
However,
  • The flagship sentence needs a ref.
  • The Nobel Prize sentence needs shortening.
Let me know about further concerns, hmwithτ 06:53, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've fixed the two remaining concerns. hmwithτ 23:49, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

more[change source]

On going with campuses section:

  • acres - should be linked.
 Fixed
  • traditional - in order to the other names, it should be linked.
 Fixed
  • William Oxley Thompson - if the building is named after him, he should be linked. I guess he's notable enough.
 Fixed
  • It is the Ohio State library's main branch, and it is the largest. - tha largest in comparison to...?
I changed it to "It is the Ohio State library's main branch, and it is the largest of the school's branches." Is that too redundant? hmwithτ 16:37, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • It was designed by architects Peter Eisenman - if grammatically correct, so please add a "the" after by.
 Fixed
  • New York and Columbus should be linked (important cities).
They're already linked the first two times in the article. However, I'll link it again here. New York has been linked. hmwithτ 16:35, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Leslie Wexner - sounds like notable? If yes, please link it.
 Fixed
  • deconstructivist isn't simple.
I've linked it to deconstructivism at Wiktionary. Does that cover it? I'm not quite sure an name of a style of art can be simplified. hmwithτ 16:35, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Regional campuses is too short as section. Perhabs there is more to tell us :) or just merge it with an otehr section.
Fixed Added information about academic programs and the most important information. hmwithτ 16:35, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Aeronautical/Astronautical Research Laboratory should be linked, especially the first too words.
Fixed I've linked the terms to aeronautics, aerospace engineering, and laboratory. hmwithτ 16:35, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Arboretum should be linked.
 Fixed

That's all in the campuses section. I'll have a look at the last section later. Barras (talk) 14:04, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've fixed the concerns. Let me know if you notice that I have not. Thank you for the thorough review. hmwithτ 16:35, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • housing; food service; health, wellness and counseling; activities, organizations and leadership development; recreation and intramurals - nearly all can be linked.
 Fixed
  • publications should be linked.
 Fixed
  • outlets should be linked or renamed to store, supermarket or something else.
I'm not sure the best way to fix this. Should I say something along the lines of "student-run radio stations, television stations, etc." hmwithτ 18:24, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • undergraduate should be linked.
 Fixed
  • broadcast should be linked (to wikt:)
  • (or TBDBITL, "The Best Damn Band in the Land") - should have a reference.
 Fixed
  • The marching band is the largest all-brass and percussion band in the world. - needs a reference.
 Fixed
  • The band is famous for "Script Ohio" - please explain what this is and reference it.
 Fixed
  • diversity should be linked.
 Fixed
  • surveys should be linked.
 Fixed
  • In various surveys and rankings it has been included - is there a comma before "it" missing?
 Fixed
  • Diversity sections looks a bit short. Is there more you can add?
  • honors and Scholars should be linked (probably to wikt:?).
I'm not sure exactly how to go about this. I think Scholars is a term that just OSU uses as a name for the program. hmwithτ 18:24, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Student governments section is a bit short.
  • OSU is in the NCAA's Division I in most sports. What are "most" (10; 18; 33?) and needs a reference.
It's the biggest school in the United States. It's in the highest division for every sport, which is known as DI for everything, except football's DI has subdivisions. That doesn't need to be discussed in this article, as OSU is technically DI for everything. I've changed it to say so. hmwithτ 15:14, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the rest of the article. I hope my comments help :)

Have fun with correcting it ;)

Barras (talk) 17:55, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've fixed most of the concerns here, but I still have some work to do. Thanks again so much for the extremely thorough review. It needed it. hmwithτ 18:24, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PGA review my Pmlinediter[change source]

  • Lead is too short compared to rest of articles. Include some of the important points from the other sections there.
  • "One of the best" is a bit confusing.
Changed to "highest ranked" if that's not too complex. hmwithτ 15:00, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The Ohio State University has been noted" - by whom?
By multiple publications. I added that. The lead was just a summary; there's more in the rankings section. hmwithτ 15:00, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The university was started in 1870 in a farming community in Columbus, Ohio." - Farming community not simple
I changed it to "farming group". hmwithτ 15:00, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ohio State is still the only Ohio public university in it. - sounds odd to me
Fixed. Sometimes, I notice that I simplify things so much that it becomes more complicated/confusing/nonsense. :) hmwithτ 15:00, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Ohio State’s faculty includes a Nobel Prize-winning physicist" - name please
I added name and ref. hmwithτ 15:00, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "sustainable" - not simple
 Fixed
  • The first paragraph of Admissions needs sources
I changed a bit and added refs for everything. hmwithτ 15:00, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Link acres and miles
I don't see a user of "miles". Did I already change it? hmwithτ 15:00, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Campuses section has only 1 ref
  • "OSU" - no abbreviations
 Fixed
  • Honors programs and Student governments need refs
  • 10 red links is a bit of overkill. Please reduce this to about 5.

This is for now. I'll review again after you do this. I see great work with converting the refs tto use {{citeweb}} and publisher and accessdate and with writing the article. Pmlineditor  Talk 16:08, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I dealt with some things, but I still need to add refs to campus, honors, and student government sections; lowering the amount of redlinks; and expand the lead. hmwithτ 15:00, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
