Religion in PK

According ot en:Religion_in_Pakistan the religious groups are:

• Islam: 173 million (Sunni: 75%, Shia 20%)
• Hinduism: 3.2m
• Christians: 2.8m
• Ahmadis: 1 million (looks like some form of islam)
• Baha'is: 30.000
• Buddhists, Sikhs, Zoroastrians: 20.000 each

Removed hard material

Hello, just to let everyone know please that I have today removed much hard /difficult material from this article, that in my view would not be comprehensible for Simple Wikipedia users. Let's please keep it Simple, thanks. Hamneto (talk) 06:31, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Hamneto

GA review...

I think what we also need to point out (yes, some of the issues may be problematic):

• Since the partition of India (in the 1940s), there were (I think) three wars with India.
• The importance of religion has changed; I think Islam is more present; Islamic law has replaced secular (British) Common Law in many parts.
• Without being a Muslim, perhaps even belonging to only one of the two main "groups", you won't do any politics at all.
• Parts of the country ("the Federally-Administered-tribal areas", no idea if that name is current) seem to have a law system based on customs and elders passing verdicts, which is independent from the other parts of the country
• Readability is a big concern. Make. Shorter. Sentences.
• At least in recent times it is one of the countries where climate change is most apparent. Large floods,...
• At least in some countries there's a touch of "religious fundamentalism" when you speak about Pakistan.
• There seem to be frequent conflicts between ethnic groups, which may result in violent clashes.
• There are blasphemy laws. Like with many countries that have them, they are mostly used against minorities.
• There have been many military regimes; so even if there is a notion of a "democracy", its understanding is still poor.
• It is high on the fragile state index (meaning fragile). Issues include freedom of the press, corruption and Human rights abuses
• Role of women in society?
• Ecology, Climate change?

But yes, the article has been around a long time, and many people worked on it. There's a lot of work, and the big question is: what do we want for GA level? Eptalon (talk) 17:54, 19 December 2023 (UTC) So If there's any interest we can work on the article. There's enough work for everyone..

My main concern is the lack of a Culture section. I do not believe a country article can reach GA without a section about that country's culture. QuicoleJR (talk) 23:17, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

Barriers to promotion

I think before we promote, all issues should be sorted out. I've noticed that since independence P. has moved steadily away from democracy towards dictatorship. It seems to have a presidential-type government rather than a democracy. When that happened in a small island like Cuba it was overwhelming. Perhaps in a large country it is different. I just doubt whether we have a good balance in the article as it is. Macdonald-ross (talk) 14:17, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
