This entire article is completely wrong. It's making it so simple that it's stretching the truth. 67.187.96.141 22:24, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

what the[change source]

So simple it stretches the truth? If this is simple english wiki, how come there's words like "contemporary" and "rigorous?????

The article reads like it was written for 7th graders.

I thought the article wasnt that bad actually, its quite good.

Thanks. If we do our job, the articles should get better as time passes. Not all do, however! Macdonald-ross (talk) 19:41, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

U-Tube video[change source]

An unregistered user has uploaded a link to a U-Tube "Simple English" version of Socrates. I'd like to hear opinions of this. Obviously, I wish the person had used our page as the basis, not the English wiki version. Their claim that Socrates' method is closely related to scientific method is not well supported by scholars, but the video goes off on this far too early, and so diverts attention from more basic points. Furthermore, I find the speaker's tone of voice rather artificial and irritating. Compare, for example, David Attenborough's natural way of talking, or indeed any professional presenter. All the same, I think the narrator deserves congratulations for even trying. Another point: do his visuals really add anything? Macdonald-ross (talk) 08:59, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It'd have been better if he didn't use the first minute of the video to promote his website... I think the main objective there is to teach the listener English rather than about Socrates. I think Spoken articles would be a very valuable project for us, with many people being able to understand spoken English but having difficulty reading it – but this is nothing like that. Well, I've taken it out. Quality is low, and adds nothing to our article. Macdonald-ross (talk) 16:55, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
