Richard Stephen Walter is an English composer of film and television scores and production music.

Walter's music has been used in numerous commercials, television shows, and movies. His sting "Shock Horror (a)" is of particular fame, originating in a 1984 album of stock sound effects and short musical pieces and being used in multiple episodes of The Ren & Stimpy Show and SpongeBob SquarePants, eventually becoming so iconic that it has become the default musical indication of suspense and fear. Works of his have also been sampled in songs made by other artists, most notably by Kendrick Lamar who used Walter's "Shifting Sands of Sound" for his song "Hol' Up" from his 2011 album Section.80.
