History[change source]

The channel was first launched on 28 February 1983 at 8:00a.m. as Channel Seven. Cables were required to view the channel (which came to around £7.99). The cables were being sold starting with 31 January and people were told to plug in the cables the night before the channel's launch so they could "wake up with a fresh new channel".

From 1983 to 1989, the channel aired from 8:00a.m. and ended its broadcast time around 10:00p.m. Like most channels in Jetania, programmes were usually not interrupted with advert breaks, but advertisments were seen in between shows.

The channel rebranded as Sky Channel on 30 November 1987 after Rupert Murdoch bought the Channel Seven Group back in September that year. This was where the channel began mainly focusing on entertainment, sports and movies more than just comedy.

In 1988, the first ever Sky Idol was aired. It airs from September to December each year, and sole acts or groups sign to the competition and try to win a 2 year recording contact.
