Welcome![change source]

Hello, Daniel, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing! PullToOpenTalk 02:55, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Simple![change source]

As you can see, I am using simpler words than I usually do at Wikipedia en - hence that's why it is called simple :) So glad you could make it here; obviously, you won't be active over here (unless you want to, of course ;) but it's brilliant to see that I am missed Wikipedia so much you created an account just for me! (Or, at least your w:en talk page says so). Brilliant to hear from you; kind regards, Anthonycfc [TC] 19:30, 27 January 2007 (UTC) 19:30, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So we meet again...[change source]

Did not notice you were here. (note:I am Punk Boi 8). I have changed since EN. Also, that socking was not me (never got a reply to your messages). Trodel knows Im here. -- Spiderpig0001 Does whatever a spiderpig can! 08:44, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. Daniel 03:42, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copy/pastes and Copyrights[change source]

It is not surprising you could not find a page on it as there is not one in place. The general procedure about dealing with copy/pastes was started in Feb 2007 in Simple talk (Archive 7). Since then it, the procedure has been adapted and used many times for RfD actions and states again and again on talk page warning to new users. While it is currently neither a guideline nor policy (no one has actually done the work to get it officially accepted) and just a standard procedure here, it is one of our more commonly known procedures with experienced Simple editors. Something this well known should be common practice for anyone qualified for administrator.

The copy-right concerns with it were brought up in Simple Talk as well (Archive 14). As Wikipedia releases all of its information under GFDL as long as the article is attributed or linked to, we basically link to the original page which was used for the basis of the article (interwiki links to the En:wp page). As long as the en:wp page remains, the history (with all contributing editors) is attributed in that manner. Even if the page is deleted, the history still is almost always kept and can be retreived if needed. Of course, anytime a direct unedited en:wp page is copied over, it does not include links back to itself (en:article name needs to be added) so this may create a concern in that area which adds to the validation of removal of copy/paste articles. -- Creol(talk) 02:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where exactly should said link to en:wp be left? I was looking at some by the user formerly known as Spiderpig0001 (talk · contribs) (interestingly, a banned user on the English Wikipedia), who's given no attribution in the edit summary or no note in the article. He is, in effect, citing that he has license rights, and that he is releasing the text which he held the rights to under the GFDL (which, is of course, not true - en:wp authors are the ones who could do this). I feel something needs to be done about this user and this kind of action, because his current practices are misleading. Daniel 03:35, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, he needs to write in the edit summary that he has copied the material from English Wikipedia and then add a link to the WP article on the Simple WP article's talk page. But I don't think he should be copying article straight from WP to here, anyway. Our articles are not written in simple English and I would assume, were, therefore, not suitable for use here. But even if he just basis his articles on WP articles, and rewrites then into simple English, he still needs to acknowledge where the article has come from because it is a derivative work. I agree - Simple isn't meant to be a mirror of Wikipedia, because they're two different projects. That being said, Nathan's lucky this isn't a mirror, because if it was he'd still be banned. Daniel 05:24, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I take it you'll be editing some articles around here too? ;-) —Giggy 07:31, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not. I'm more here to pursue my goal of preventing immature early-teenage sockpuppeteers from getting adminship. Daniel (talk) 09:17, 19 August 2008 (UTC) In case anyone didn't realise, this comment was a parody of previous events and discussions which occurred on the English Wikipedia.[reply]
Too bad, you're going to be editing Sniper with me anyway. SWATJester Son of the Defender 11:11, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As long as I'm allowed to use it - it should reach to Victoria, hopefully (kidding, Bstone, kidding!). Daniel (talk) 11:13, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. No worries about the IRC thing, I've been moving back up to DC again, so I've been in and out of internet access. SWATJester Son of the Defender 11:46, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please remember Simple does enforce WP:NPA, saying your goal "preventing early teenage sockpuppeteers from getting adminship", and a sniper "should reach to Victoria, hopefully", I consider one (as the former implys I will not get the mop EVER even if I do get evidence against me commiting the offences (over here, that was done two days ago, see WP:ST#User:Da Punk '08 RFA controversy), and the latter saying you are going to shoot me). --  Da Punk '08  talk  20:45, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think he was talking about Bstone, and not you. SWATJester Son of the Defender 22:42, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bstone isn't an "immature early-teenage sockpuppeteer"... he was most definitely talking about Da Punk. Majorly talk 23:03, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. I just got it. The "kidding Bstone" was from TOV. How I didn't see that the first 30 times I looked at it, is completely beyond me. Apparently, I need to get some sleep. SWATJester Son of the Defender 23:24, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Da Punk '08, criticism is not an attack. Another good reason why you shouldn't be an administrator, if you would block someone over writing that. Daniel (talk) 04:03, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daniel, remember me? fr33kman talk 05:29, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, not particularly, to be honest. Daniel (talk) 05:30, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We once met over the threat of an (imo poor) admin on enWP; you offered me mentoring to become an admin there. I decided to come to simple where I'm now a crat and checkuser. fr33kman talk 05:33, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I won’t drone strike you because you live within a hundred miles of me but please unblock this IP blocked on no evidence. 166.198.251.71 (talk) 12:07, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
