IRC Channel

Heya Barliner, what's the IRC channel that you usually go to (recent changes for this Wikipedia)? I tried to get onto it, but it didn't work very well....maybe you could shed some light onto this situation? Razorflame (contributions) Talk 19:31, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In case you were wondering what I look like, I've just uploaded to the commons an image of myself. See for yourself at my userpage here ;) Razorflame (contributions) Talk 00:58, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

North Pole Elementary

Heya Barliner, can we get some action on this IP address? Creol deleted Template:NPE for Vandalism earlier. Razorflame 03:31, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think I did a good job expanding this article? It was one of my first real attempts at expanding an article. Razorflame 18:20, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just got done reverting 5-7 vandalous edits to the page World War II and I think that this page should be semi-protected. If this same vandal strikes again in 3 hours, I'm going to immediately post him up for 24 hour block. What do you think on this topic? Razorflame 23:01, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the welcome message ^_^

I have worked on wikipedia before, but this is new you to me. On wikipedia, there was something called the ANI (Administrators Noticeboard/Incidents)... is there anything for that here?

Iamandrewrice 12:31, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

lol yes :) is there an equivalent here? x

Iamandrewrice 12:32, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

World War II

I am curious about a couple of the changes in your edit of the article World War II.

  1. The removal of information of the start of the war in the Asian theater. The Pacific War is commonly accepted as starting on July 7, 1937 with the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War.
  2. The removal of information dealing with England and France not following through on their stated support of Poland.
  3. 1938 vs 1939 in regards to Czechoslovakia. The dates seem to be in opposition to en:wp as there was no actual attack until March '39. While there was planning, pressure and threat of attack in 1938, the Munich Agreement handed over the areas controlled by Germany without the need for combat. Actually I would question the use of the term attacked at all given that, even in March, Hitler basically just said "We are going to attack you. Do you surrender?" and they pretty much did. The troops marched into Prague, but to no resistance so I am not even certain that counts as attacking.

Help at understanding the changes (and any insight on the date issue as I am not very certain what actually was going on in that area) would be appreciated. -- Creol(talk) 13:40, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

True, maybe threat is better than attack for the first Czech. episode. I will make a change. As it was the article's timelime was confusing mentioned an attack in 1939 and then went back to no attack in 1938. Actually there should be a mention of the Anschluß as well as Czechoslovakia as the start of expansion plans. I would still say attack for 1939, Sudetendland was a surrender, but the rest of the country was an "attack" albeit with little or no resistance

Stated support of Poland. When Poland was attacked war was declared. The logistics of made actual military support in Poland itself impossible, but the old edit seemed to expect this. Some wording needs to be found to show limited support on the western front. France's slow mobilisation for example. Britain only promised support a few weeks before the war started so was unprepared for action, although Britain did begin seizing ships as well as a blockade.
Start of WW2. July 1937 is certainly the start of Sino Japan 2 but only recently has this bilateral conflict been claimed as the start of WW2. To say "technically began" is too simplistic. I see that en:wp gives the attack of Poland as the start, also saying Sino Jpan was a seperate conflict. Actually the scope of the WW2 article itself is really only the war in Europe. Maybe a page rename is in order. Leaving World War II as an introduction, including conflicts/threats in Europe and Asia with the war in Europe and the War the Pacific as main articles which would be more easily edited. Certainly it would allow for expansion of the pre-Pearl Harbor fighting in China and Indo China--Bärliner 14:35, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aargau Finished

Hey there Barliner! I finished up creating all the municipalities for the canton of Aargau now :) What do you think I should work on next? Razorflame 19:02, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see some redlinks. Maybe just different names for the same place. --Bärliner 19:15, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, they are different names for places. Other than that, all the municipalities are done. I'll go fix up those other ones right now. Razorflame 19:16, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

oh...

ok thanks... but surely it would still be preferable to have somethingto work with? otherwise, there is no article at all. i dont quite think its the same as with german and english. Basic English is simply an extract of a few words from English, so a speaker of basic english will be able to understand much of an article in English anyway, yes? Ben(User)(Talk)(Changes) 16:23, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When an editor wants to create an article then he or she will. this is far better than leaving complex articles that out target cannot understand lying around. See What we are not--Bärliner 16:32, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
oh ok... does that mean simple wikipedia is not allowed to have all the articles that wikipedia has, even if they are in basic english? Ben(User)(Talk)(Changes) 16:42, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for jumping in, but that is not the case. A lot of the articles I've made all come from the English Wikipedia, it's just that I've simplified the English used in them so that other users here would be able to easily understand them. Razorflame 17:34, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Technosexuality

your removal of my content on technosexuality was completely innapropriate. You removed some very valid content, and you have changed the meaning away from academic consenus. Technosexual, campaigned by Calvin Klein, is just ONE aspect of Technosexuality... I will shortly be restoring the rest. Ben.(Talk).(Changes) 13:39, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I give weight to both sides of technosexuality. See the english wikipedia version --Bärliner 13:43, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am not yet done with the article... I was building up both sides. However, removing content about one of the sides is unneccesary. I was in fact trying to get back to the sources I had used right when you changed it back... as I am going to try do again now... Ben.(Talk).(Changes) 13:46, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have provided many links to the article. I am still not done, as I will be restructuring it and adding more links soon, but I think that what is there at the moment is good enough to prove the phenomenon observed by the academic consensus. Ben.(Talk).(Changes) 14:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have not denied the existence of technosexuality. I dispute the articles robot bias. The section says a lot about robots, almost nothing about technosexuality --Bärliner 14:48, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am still adding bits about it...some of the bits about technosexuality are found inside the paragraphs about the robots. ^^ Ben.(Talk).(Changes) 15:31, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hi ^_^

thanks again :D how exactly did you make the template? Ben.(Talk).(Changes) 15:32, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't it I imported it from en:wp. I just saw that you had a redlink and brought the appropriate template over so that your code worked. --Bärliner 15:34, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How did you bring it over tho? Ben.(Talk).(Changes) 15:39, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As a admin I can use the import feature. This preserves the history, and therefore the info needed for copyright and attribution under the GFDL licence. Another reason "copypaste" from enwp is frowned upon here. --Bärliner 15:44, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scorpion0422

Hi, can you please help me on this debate that has been occurring between me and Scorpion0422. Scorpion0422 first came to this wiki, registered an account and started a fuss on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard by targeting me for a copyright violation and accussing me for my editing saying that I could get blocked. I have recently asked him several questions which he did not completely answer me and has made side excuses on my talk page which showed no reasonable solutions to the discussion. Later he framed me for plagarism on the articles. If you would read the articles, at a first glance, they do have similar formats, but the text are not directly the same although Scorpion0422 has been accousing me of it nevertheless. I believe that I have been framed for no justified reason since he later withdrew his statement since he had no proof on any copyright violation which subsequently makes it a "personal attack" since I was offline during the time it began. I felt completely frustrated by his behavior by calling me a thief, critizing me for no reason (since he has backed away from his claims and showed no proof), pursading other users against my work and me, and being uncivil. Just recently, he has said "I'm done" in order to avoid this issue as of what was his reason to start this debate without a reasonable statement or anything. So my point is that I was targeted for no speific reason. I hope that you may help resolve this problem. To see where the discussion occurred see my talk page and Scorpion0422's talk page. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 03:31, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How can you possibly say that it wasn't a copy and paste job? The Maggie Simpson article had a {{fact}} that said it had been on there since August 2007, but the article was created in September 2007. -- Scorpion0422 (talk) 03:35, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
*ahem* Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Copyright violation. Excuse me but when I read the disccussion posted up there, Razorflame has already noted you that is not any form of a copyright infringement. Personally, I felt that you have created a biased statement against me. If you don't understand a policy stop and think twice before making any actions as you have just done. Policies be read carefully and carried out what they say. You have said I made a wiki policy violation which you have never proved, just as I mentioned above in may statement. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 03:43, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also framing and targeting against one single user without a reasonable or valid statement is a form of a personal attack up to a degree. You have not yet given such statements. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 03:44, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

oh gosh...

... i didnt realise he wasn't an admin... i'm going to get banned again now :(

this is such a stupid rule! Ben(Talk).(Changes) 14:37, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No ban. I understand your reason for contacting him. You forget that for the time being you should not. I am glad that you want to prevent any sort of abusive language here. I hope you are happy with my explanation of what happened. --Bärliner 14:40, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry i meant 'blocked'...
and although I understand many things can be said on the heat of the moment, as I have sometimes done so myself, I think that an apology would show that he didn't mean it... although from what i have observed, I have not seen this from him yet. Ben(Talk).(Changes) 14:47, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will ask him.--Bärliner 14:51, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you ^^ ...so by the way... how come you can speak english so well if you're from Germany? :) Ben(Talk).(Changes) 15:10, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Same reason you speak english so well and are from Malta, France, and Italy :) --Bärliner 15:14, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hehe... but i've always lived in England... oh have you? Ben(Talk).(Changes) 15:18, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No. And usually I spend about six or eight months in Germany each year, working for friends.--Bärliner 15:31, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Plagairism

I have perviously left you a note above, also that you are aware of the debate that was occurring throughout the past 2 days. If you take a look at Scorpion0422's talk page, I have clearly stated to him of what was the intention of accussing me and becoming uncivil amongst a whole lot of other things. Apparently, the problem hasn't yet been resolved or come to an end and I have strongly felt that I was harrassed, attacked, and acoussed by Scorpion0422 for no reason. I have done nothing wrong until Scorpion0422 began stirring up commotion and eventually a heated debate between us.

About the comment on Gwib's talk page, that was targeted towards Scorpion0422 for the problems he has caused before. About Iamandrewrice, I guess that I was not sensitive enough that someone else would get offended, but I would like to take a moment to apologize to Iamandrewrice for any concerns I might have caused to him. But please be aware that the profanity was directed only to Scorpion0422, not anyone else.

Right now, I'm trying to cool down a bit before resuming to edit, but unfortunately school is beginning pretty soon again so my editing pace may be decreased. Anyhow, I don't plan to leave this wiki now, so I may occassionally edit every week.

P.S. I'm not from Australia, I from the US. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 22:22, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you snake for your appology. However, using the homophobic term 'queer' is not just insultive to the person it is directed at, but is in fact an insulting term for all people who identify as homosexual. remember that ;) lol 89.240.72.176 (talk) 22:45, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this. Apologies for mixing you up with another editor. Actually I was hoping to show iamandrewrice that what is a homophobic remark in one country might not be in another . I knew your anger was directed only against Scorpion, but for Iamandrewrice I asked you to actually say so. I too am thoroughly sick of Scorpions talk of plagarism. The notice on the enwp edit page saysPlease note:

I undid IamAR's edit to the AN because there already is a topic about it in the Simple talk page, and it has nothing to do with administrators. Razorflame 14:37, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I restored it so I could say what had happened to the edit. Namely it has been moved to simple talk, which is far more useful than simply getting rid of it.--Bärliner 14:40, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for that. I saw that oysterguitarist moved a message about that to simple talk, so I assumed that it was a repeat edit. Razorflame 14:43, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Music Project

Well, there is Kind of a music Project, it's just not official yet... And I only lest that message on the talk page of the pages that I myself had created as part of the project and a few others that may directly link to the pages that I have created. But, Ok, I won't continue that until the music project is official, I just thought it may be another way of letting people know about the project. How can I make a template? Thanks IuseR 17:05, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

flagicon

With all the work you did creating country data files, I would have thought you would use {{flag}} more often than {{flagicon}}. Plus it saves even more space by not needing to use the link to the country as well (in cases of countries were data is available of course, silly to use it when no data is done yet). -- Creol(talk) 13:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, Barliner.

Hey Barliner. Firstly, I would just like to Thank you for participating in the discussion about Gwib on the AN, I respect your opinion and it is users like yourself whom I listen too and have earned my respect. But, I would Like to archive my talk page, It is getting a tad long for me and my computer slows down when i open my user page. I would like to archive the first 25 discussions on my talk page, so 1 -25. How can I do that please? Thanks IuseR 13:45, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have a seperate page that I copy barnstars to. Then I simply archoive the whole page by moving it to a subpage. I would suggest you move your page to IuseRosary/archive1 then you can copy and paste the barnstar back to your user page. If I have not explained that very well I will make the move for you. --Bärliner 13:53, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, My barnstar is already on my userpage. But yeah, you explained it pretty well, Thank-You IuseR 13:55, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts

Sorry, But I did double check every single revert i made with infomation from other sources such as en.wikipedia. When the anonmous user was putting peoiple's births as certain years, i double checked and alot of the time, they were born on a different year. Nobody else that was reverting this vandilism gave an in-depth edit summery. Am I not trusted? IuseR 20:09, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You don't need to give an indepth summary, but instead of just saying vandalism say "wrong year" or "removing non-existent website" which is a summary gwib used recently. Just saying vandalism doesn't help anybody especially the named editor who who getting annoyed at always being reverted. --Bärliner 20:29, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, Thanks, I'll remember that. IuseR 20:34, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

County town vs county seat

Noticed a recent change via AWB listing the relinking of "county seat" to "county town" for a city in Alabama. The term County town is used for the British Isles (UK and Ireland). County seat is the general term used for any such place and the one for the seat of all county governments in the United States. -- Creol(talk) 18:25, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Damn. I copied a pre-existing link, assuming the article included both references. What I did was create a link, so county seat is unchanged --Bärliner 18:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A quick query about this - the article says that in the US the county seat is where central Government is. But shouldn't that be local Government as central Government suggests national Government. And in the UK equivalent, it gets more complicated due to the varying different layers of local Government different areas have, from one layer (unitary authorities) to three layers (parish/district/county councils) MindTheGap (talk) 18:45, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the US uses "central" and "local" government in the same way as the UK, but I will change that to "centre of government" for non-US readers. Also the UK's non-metropolitan unitary authorities are in the main their own counties, so we also stray into the historical, ceremonalo and administrative argument.--Bärliner 18:50, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That would seem to make sense - as you say the traditional/ceremonial/administrative makes it less straightforward than it would be nice to be! MindTheGap (talk) 18:53, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the local government of the county is based on the county town. Districts and parishes all have different functions seperate from "county government". This tiering of local government seems to happen in most countries so I do not think it will confuse anyone. --Bärliner 18:58, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

may I ask something?

Why is it that IuseR was blocked for 24hours for just calling 'Gwob' a 'runt'... while Snake311 was not blocked at all for calling that other person a 'motherf**king queer'.

Not only this...

But i have just had restrictions put on me for telling Gwob that he was wrong... but Gwob was arguing with me too, and called me a 'pathetic waste of space', and nothing at all was done.

you may not like this, but I do feel there is some bias going on against the newer users... I-R 22:43, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • "your ideas Gwib are completely Euro-centric"
    • ""GWIB", you are completely wrong"
    • "See my translations above, compared to... 'yours'... "
    • "revise your 'basic english'... or actually, your 'english'. It is understandable that you would have forgotten it by living in Switzerland so long..."
    • "helping me out with this whole Gwib's Issues"
    • "The above account can be considered a personal attack or continued harassment on Gwib"
    • "I see you've had problems with 'Gwob' too, or whatever his/her/its name is"
    • "and why is gwib still posting here? get rid of it"

--Gwib -(talk)- 22:50, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

paragraph 1. You are in correct. This is not the quote snake 311 gave, and I have already answered this question

paragraph 3. You are insulting another user by deliberately using the wrong spelling of his username. Among several other insults, which I see Gwib has listed. Get on with producing articles and stop harassing administrators and disrupting wikipedia. --Bärliner 22:55, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No you have not told me why Snake311 was not blocked? I would like to know just that please... as I think that what he said was far more insultive than calling someone a 'runt'.
And also, if you have noticed, the 'i' and the 'o' on the keyboard are next to eachother, so it is very easy to missspell 'Gwib'.
Please answer that question I-R 22:59, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are not IuseRosary, Snake or Scorpion. They know the reasons for the blocking and other action. I have no intention of raking through old conversations about old issues in order that you can continue disrupting this site. --Bärliner 23:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No they don't... IuseR has informed me that he does not exactly understand why he was blocked for something so small, while Snake was not blocked for something a lot worse. Please... really... do fill us in... we'd love to hear the reasons? I-R 23:12, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If IuseRosary does not know the reason for the block then, he can ask the blocking admin. Oysterguitarist 23:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just out of curiosity (Hello all, btw); Last time I checked IuseRosary was able to write himself (herself?), so if it the blocking reason is really unclear to him (..); why do we see you asking, and not him? - As to the bloking rest assured, from now on, admins will treat all users the same way (in other words: there is no favoritism). --Eptalon (talk) 23:19, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IuseR can write himself, but I warned him not to talk about this in case they tried to block him again for causing 'disruption', so I said I would bring up the matter once I think it is a more appropriate time. Thank you Eptalon, so from now on, all personal attacks will be treated the same way? I-R 09:06, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I-R 14:35, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't snap. I typed a brief note. The rewason is that a "See also" is a list of links which may be useful. The template is a seperate section of its own, so like all other templates is placed in after the text. --Bärliner 14:38, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For your information

IuseRosary, who has long been suspected of being Ben's friend Joe, has been editing the Mean Girls article. A sock puppet account on EN Wikipedia also had an interest in the same article there. It was an account that was made and blocked during the Iamandrewrice and friends debacle there. Just as a point of information for your and other admin's edification if you are considering any further action to be taken.

Also, just so you know, and a minor point, IuseRosary also seems to find it necessary to follow you and change your spelling in posts. knowledge is power. Jeffpw (talk) 17:42, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear. That person is not me, do a checkuser - or are you afraid of bbeing proved wrong? An explination for why I edited that article is at the bottom of my talk page. And, I saw the spelling mistake and thought i would change it, what's wrong with that? I did not 'follow' - you are just twisting things. Why are you doing this? I have been a mostly constructive editor, with the odd hickup from the beginning and I have contributed alot to the music section, I have created 11 new pages. Orthodox churches

Hello, how do you suggest we orginase them (Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox, Coptic), if possible intto one cat? - If we take Eastern Christianity, would that overlap with the Other christian church in Egypt (which is a Catholic one)? - What do we do when we get articles on the churches in Syria, Iraq, etc? --Eptalon (talk) 17:20, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nontrinitarians

I have created Nontrinitarianism (which is Category:Christian theology); So we need a cat that we can put under Christian theology; where we can put those (Mormons, Jehovah's witnesses, Arians...) - Ideas? --Eptalon (talk) 17:54, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As a separate subcategory of Christian denominations, along with Protestantism this is a good idea. As the World Council of Churches defines a Christian Church as trinitarian, putting these others outside "protestantism" and "Catholicism" is justified by standard practice I think--Bärliner 18:13, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, and thanks a million for the help and rewriting of Brunstad Conference Center … just one thing, why did you move it to centre instead of center?
