Articles containing potentially dated statements from 2003

Hi Barras. Could I please restore this category? It's not a maintenance category, but for dated data (i.e., census data) that will eventually need updating, so it will have items going in and out of it all the time and may occasionally be empty. Osiris (talk) 11:40, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Well, acutally I really doubt that this category will be much used. Looking at Special:AncientPages, it looks like the oldest pages go back to 2005, are there then really such old info from 2003 included? -Barras (talk) 12:11, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

It may be the most recent data available in many cases, as statistics aren't frequently updated. For example, according to the article Abu Dhabi, the most recent data on the population of that city is from 2003. Abu Dhabi performed a census in 2011, so the article now needs to be updated. On the other hand, the most recent census in Chile was done in 2003, so even in articles created tomorrow that will still be the most official data on its population. This of course is just an example and applies to many other kinds of information. See en:Wikipedia:As of. Osiris (talk) 12:51, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Templates doi and pmid

These templates are processed by a bot on en. They use the serial numbers assigned to specific journal articles to look up information in a data base and automatically fill out the full citation. They have been nominated for deletion on Simple English Wikipedia. However, I believe it would be worthwhile contacting the en bot owner to see if he could expand the scope of the bot's scan to include Simple. We need a volunteer (perhaps you?) to make the contact. I'm not much active on enwiki and really don't know who the bot runs and so on. Upper jaw

i did not see the article before deletion, so i can't comment on its quality, but your deletion note talks about "notability", which is a bit strange. i can't think of any reason why upper jaw (aka "maxilla") would be less notable than the lower jaw, aka "mandible", which has an article on simple. upper jaw/maxilla has articles on some 40 wikis, and should have articles on all of the rest.

as i said, i did not read the article itself before deletion. my comment was about the notability of the subject only. in hewiki, when an article is deleted because of "notability", it pretty much guarantees that another article on the subject will not be written without community discussion and consensus (in hewiki we do delete articles as "stub for rewrite" or sumesuch, which signals to future writers that it's "kosher" to create an article for this subject). i have no issue with the fact that simple operate with different guidelines - was just a bit surprised. peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 17:25, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

thanks, but i doubt i'll have free cycles. i contribute a little in hewiki, and to much lesser extent in enwiki, but unfortunately i won't be able to contribute in simple. the reason i even noticed it was that i follow the hewiki article (i wrote it), and was surprised when one of the interwiki bots removed the simple interwiki, so i peeked here to see what's the deal. i can absolutely understand vandalism - god knows we get our fair share of it in hewiki also. i was just surprised to see "notability" as the deletion reason, and this is why i popped here to ask about it in the first place.... peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 17:33, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
