An anniversary

This editor is a Senior Editor I and has the right to show this Book of Knowledge.

I see that you have now completed two years service, and an astonishing number of edits! I have calculated this at about 115 edits per day. I am surprised you have time to eat! Enjoy your book, and best wishes for 2014, --Peterdownunder (talk) 11:12, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Peter! Yes, waaay too much time on my hands, it would seem... :) Happy new year, and best wishes for you also. Osiris (talk) 11:14, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Osiris, it is a great job that you are doing. I'm really sad that we are opposing each other, and I would like to change that, if that is possible. If you will be interested to know a bit about Audiophile world, as I know it, try http://www.head-fi.org/t/681247/free-amp-giveaway-with-conditions-audio-gd-nfb-10se. Here we have an admin who is going beyond anything that is expected, and just offering something that he has as a giveaway. This thread is a true AGF in action, and I wish to see more of this spirit in the Wikipedia. Happy New Year 2014 and let the negative stuff from 2013 to remain there. Best Wishes in the New Year.Tdfdc (talk) 18:20, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for Permissions

As I already stated, Nice to "see" you. I have been on Wikipedia for the past nine hours, helping, helping, and helping the Simple English Wikipedia. At some point during those nine hours I made a request for Patroller Rights. If you could, I would love it if you reviewed the request. Thanks! Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)

I'll probably leave that for someone else. I usually prefer to see a bit more practice on NewPages, either creating articles or fixing up those that have been created by new/IP users... Edits that demonstrate you're familiar with how everything should be on the page. If you've got any patrolling sort of diffs to show, then that would be helpful for the reviewing admin. Otherwise, you've only created three articles and they all needed fixing up in some way (formatting corrections, one didn't have any categories)... A bit more practice and you should be fine. Osiris (talk) 22:52, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I will deeply take your words into account. Also, I have created Four Articles, and Rewritten one.Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)
Great. For any that don't appear here, including a link to them in your request might help. Osiris (talk) 23:01, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done I also have them listed on my UserPage. Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)

Patroller

I know from the the previous conversation that we had yesterday, you would have not given me Patroller rights. Fortunately for me, I was still granted them. I just wanted to let you know this and to thank you for leaving it up to another admin. You will see that it was no mistake giving me this privilege. I have already created another article in proper format and with citations, which I realize that my previous articles lacked. Article is Here.

Also, is Only taking a wikibreak? I have not "seen" him lately. I can just be thankful he wasn't the one to decide if I got the rights. (No disrespect, but I have gone back and noticed that most times when someone is requesting a right, or to be an admin, he a lot of times is the ONLY one that does not support. Pending(tell me I screwed up and where) 22:26, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article looks good. But there are some things that still need doing, if you're interested:

  • You need to add Categories. For people, the kinds of categories you should add are listed here.
  • Sorting key for the category. This is explained here. The sort key goes above the categories.
  • A stub tag goes on small articles (usually articles with less than 1500 characters). For a person, this is {{bio-stub}} which is placed at the very bottom.
  • Interwiki links. These are added via the "Add links" button at the bottom of the column on the left-hand side. To connect the article with en:Rob Gonsalves, click on the button and type en into the "Language" box (choose English (enwiki) when it comes up). And then, in the next box, type in the title of the page you want to connect it with. In this case, it's Rob Gonsalves.
  • Finally, none of the references you've given work. You may have formatted or spelled them incorrectly. You may also want to read these pages, which will explain what kind of sources to use. An official website like RobGonsalves.com, for example, is not really a reliable source. The rules about references are particularly strict when it comes to writing about living people.

If you have any questions, let me know. Only is still around. He's a great editor, in my opinion, and if he denies a request then he'll have a very good reason for it. Let's stick to talking about articles, though. Osiris (talk) 22:45, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'll get started soon! Pending(tell me I screwed up and where) 22:48, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) It would also be helpful if you make sure those things exist where appropriate on pages that you patrol. I was looking at the pages you have patrolled and I saw:
It's OK to patrol articles like that, but they should either fixed or tagged. If you haven't seen a write-up on what's expected of patrollers, let me know and I'll try to find one for you. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:50, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rollbacker

Thanks. Heh, I should have thought of asking for it. Pleasant, spending some time working this slow junior W. Jim.henderson (talk) 02:08, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

:) No problem. Osiris (talk) 02:11, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Damn annoying user sub pages....

Man that user sub page really gets under my skin too. ;) lol j/k saw your comment and thought it was amusing. -DJSasso (talk) 13:59, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Julian's page? Yeah, man, it was all up in my business and stuff.. ;P Heh, no, it just kept popping up every time I wanted to make sure that one of those templates were no longer used anywhere. Kept having to filter it out of the results. Osiris (talk) 22:29, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Protection request

Hi Osiris, could you reprotect Funny Face? It's still receiving as much vandalism as ever immediately after the last protection expired a few days ago. Thx. (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 10:56, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've  Done it - Arctic Kangaroo - remember to use WP:VIP or WP:ANI rather than individuals talkpages. Kennedy (talk) 10:59, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lonely items tool

Hi Osiris, thought you might find this new tool interesting. It lists all of the items on Wikidata which have only one interwiki link, in this case simplewiki. It is also updated in real time. In addition to Special:UnconnectedPages, it really helps with finding connections, duplicated topics, non-notable subjects and other anomalies. Cheers. Delsion23 (talk) 00:45, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I looked at a few of these. Some of them probably shouldn't have been added to Wikidata -- I think we had someone adding everything even when there were neither corresponding pages in other Wikipedias nor potential for such pages. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:27, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's always a problem for us at Wikidata, the question of when to upload an article into a new item. We usually leave notability up to the individual Wikipedias, and if an article is deleted it is removed from Wikidata sometime later by a bot (I think by d:User:Hoo man). Items on Wikidata with only one site link is fine, provided that the topic is notable and there really are no other languages covering the topic. English Wikidpedia has thousands, as you'd imagine. However, it is a good indicator of notability for smaller Wikipedias. If no larger Wikipedia has an article on it the notability should be questioned. Delsion23 (talk) 12:01, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes!!! I've been wanting for this tool for a while now! As I'm sure you know, these sort of pages were difficult to find after they'd been connected to Wikidata; a lot of them of course came up on the WithoutInterwiki lists, but there are heaps left off because they'd got one or two interwikis remaining in their markup. That's excellent, Delusion, really useful. I'll scroll through the list over the next week or so and see what we need to do. Probably got some more merging and deleting to do... It seems like it never ends, but this is the last path that was needed to find all these, so we should be able to get to all of them now. Thank you for keeping me updated! :) Osiris (talk) 12:12, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Glad it will be useful :) You had the same reaction as me. It's helped me merge/delete over a thousand items for various Wikipedia languages already, fixing issues that have been lying around for as much as 8 years. Cheers. Delsion23 (talk) 18:49, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. why do you think it need to delet ?. פארוק (talk) 17:43, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Faroukh. My reasoning is on the deletion discussion page. Just follow the link in the message box. It doesn't appear to be a notable organisation from my perspective. If you can find some reliable sources that describe it then that would be helpful. I wasn't able to find much myself. Regards, Osiris (talk) 20:44, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. but that the organization he belongs to the United Nations, nothing here is a commercial. פארוק (talk) 04:28, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, I know, I haven't suggested it is. I really doubt it belongs to the United Nations, but if you can find a source that states that it is then that might go towards establishing notability. Osiris (talk) 09:25, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to know...

You may want to know that there is now a Copy Editing WikiProject, here. -Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)

Thanks, Pending. I don't really go in for these WikiProjects, but if you ever put together a task force for tackling a bunch of articles, I'd be very happy to help. You may be interested in Category:Pages in need of copyedit. There are about 50 pages or so that need some attention there. Osiris (talk) 20:59, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I saw that Category. I added the link to the sub page with all of the pages that need copy-editing on the WikiProject's main page. Thanks for the support. Have a nice day. -Pending(tell me I screwed up and where) 21:03, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism in Progress...

Why did you delete all of the block requests, and not block the users? -Pending(tell me I screwed up and where) 20:37, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Because they were old reports, where the edits had been made several hours or even days ago. If they make further edits, a new report can be made (except for 212.219.207.42 who wasn't warned properly). Osiris (talk) 20:41, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. On a completely unrelated note, is it possible to create a category in a user pace? Pending(tell me I screwed up and where) 21:04, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, unfortunately not. Osiris (talk) 21:05, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mehmed Orhan Article

I found this:

http://gw.geneanet.org/frebault?lang=de&pz=henri&nz=frebault&ocz=0&p=jean+timothee&n=de+turquie

It show's the name Jean Timothee son of Mehmed selim orhan. 217.248.142.235 16:17, 24 January 2014

Thanks for the response. It's not a great source - it's just a genealogy hosting website so people can put whatever they want on there, no? Assuming that it's accurate though, let's put Jean Timothée back in the list, with the link. Regards, Osiris (talk) 00:11, 25 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pleistocene sock returns

Just alerting you to the appearance of yet another sock of the "Pleistocene" vandal, because I know you have dealt with him before. Now he's 95.151.41.140 (talk). Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:44, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Simple Wiki page - Footscray

Hi,

I created the simple page 'Footscray' which was deleted on the 24th Jan.

It is true that this page was modified from the main wiki Footscray page but I believe I made enough changes for it to be considered 'simplified'. I teach English as an additional language and I modified and created the page for my students who have basic English language skills to use as a reading text for an area in which they are new arrivals.

Could you please reinstate the page. I can make further modifications to simplify it to the extent necessary if required.

Cheers, E 124.170.27.30 (talk) 00:11, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I've restored it. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll post on the article's talk page about things that need doing. Regards, Osiris (talk) 01:25, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
