Thanks.

Thank you so much for blocking Oregonian for his rude behavior. I'm worried though that after two days he may become even more aggressive with his behavior. If that is to happen can you possible ban him (if necessary). Please he's been getting really annoying. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 01:09, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, I can't, sorry. I can't ban users, I can only block them. Just keep doing what you're doing and don't get annoyed by the behaviour of other editors. Osiris (talk) 01:12, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a post on AN regarding the topic here. For now someone (Osiris?) should probably mention that he's been blocked, and it can always be added to if he returns. Of course, there's also nothing to stop a ban discussion (which can only be enacted by the community) starting now, although as I noted there I haven't got the time to go diff hunting. Speaking as one of the targets of Oregonian's rudeness (not necessarily as an admin), I don't think this behavior is bad enough for a ban. I believe there are several levels of blocking before a ban would be appropriate. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:41, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ongoing review

I don't think material from RP's talk page should be added to the debate. That is not proper procedure, and should be reversed IMO. Macdonald-ross (talk) 08:39, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

He has a right to participate in his appeal discussion. The procedure is outlined at WP:UNBAN. Osiris (talk) 09:01, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There is no obligation for editors to directly reply to whatever Racepacket says, though. (of course, some may argue that it's not courteous to do so...) Chenzw  Talk  09:05, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Hi Osiris. Can you grant rollback for my account? Have this right on English Wikipedia ad Commons and would also like to revert vandalism here. Thanks. Jianhui67 (talk) 10:53, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jianhui67. You'll need to lodge a request on the requests page. An administrator will reply shortly after. Thanks, Osiris (talk) 10:55, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you are an admin? Jianhui67 (talk) 10:58, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am. I may be the administrator that responds (probably not though, since I'm busy at the moment), but – as it says at the top of this page – requests for permissions should be lodged on the appropriate project page, not on my talk page. Osiris (talk) 11:03, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Did not notice that at first. Sorry. Jianhui67 (talk) 11:04, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Change for the school tutorial

Hi,

I was working on a new menu for the Wikipedia:Student tutorial and it is available to look at in my sandbox User:Jcc/sandbox. What do you think about implementing it since tabs are now the way forward for Wikipedia menus and so I was thinking about using this style of tabs here, also used in en Wikipedia's Article Wizard? I'd love to hear your views, Jcc (talk) 20:23, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it looks really good. Although: our Article wizard and its template are formatted in the old style, so it'd be good to make the general appearance of the Article wizard and the Student tutorial the same. If you want, you could try making a redesign for the Article wizard using that style as well. One more thing: the IRC link at the top could go to #wikipedia-simple connect. The other user you might want to ask is Peterdownunder, who works closely with school groups quite often. He's on a wikibreak at the moment, though. APS Wikipedia initiative

Request to undo merge with Attachment Theory. The purposefully incomplete article was posted by my professor as part of the APS Wikipedia project in order to give students at Rutgers the opportunity to practice editing.

Obviously you have a much more complete article, but....we are intimidated!! Also, we don't know how to undo the merge. Tova Ting TovaTing (talk) 16:14, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Osiris, My professor added three stub articles to simple wikipedia, so that we could learn to edit and write. This is part of an initiative by the Association for Psychological Science to improve the content of articles dealing with psychology. One is on George A. Miller, one on Attachment Theory (which you have merged with Infant Attachment) and one was titled Psychodynamic theory, which has been retitled. We are supposed to be editing these in sandboxes, but not everybody has figured out how to do that. Could you leave these alone for a few days? Thanks September 15, 2013 TovaTing (talk) 16:30, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, I wasn't aware of the project. I'll undo my edits now. Osiris (talk) 20:11, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. The original article posted by your professor is at Attachment theory, and I have moved Psychodynamic theory back to its original place. If you need any assistance with anything, just let me know. Osiris (talk) 20:20, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This should all have been done on sandboxes, and notified to us on Simple talk. We now have competing articles up on mainspace under different headings. They will need either merging, deleting or extensive editing at the end. Perhaps we need a clearer signal that class projects should be preceded by a note on Simple talk, when an appropriate method could have been discussed. For example, we could have created the sandboxes for you. Without notice, if I see a new article in mainspace on one of the topics I work on, then I naturally suppose that I may edit it. Anyway, please tell us when the project is finished. Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:53, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In your words, it's just a holding area for your work until your restrictions on the English Wikipedia are lifted. Which isn't violating the rules. TheShadowCrow (talk) 02:15, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know whether it violates any arbitration guidelines, but that's not why I asked. I think it could be seen to violate our local guidelines at WP:UP. This wiki is not a temporary hosting service for work related to other wikis. Please take it somewhere else. Osiris (talk) 02:27, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But I've got nowhere else to go! I've already been kicked out of five other wikis. And this isn't a user page. TheShadowCrow (talk) 01:46, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is. It's a userspace draft. Only it's not a draft for this wiki. Osiris (talk) 01:49, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why was my article deleted

Why was the Petorian Republic article deleted, can you explain me please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.17.115.173 (talkcontribs) 03:15, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please read our inclusion criteria for articles. Your article needs to be about something that is a real concept, and it needs to be notable. Osiris (talk) 03:17, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're funny

LOL --Auntof6 (talk) 05:50, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Whaaat? I'm just an optimist. I'm sure they'll get it done. Osiris (talk) 05:55, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

I feel that you, Oregonian, and I are the only one contributing to the DYK section. Out of the 6 Queues, 3 of them are not in use! Now there's only three queues. We need to get the fourth one moving. Thanks. Oh and ->[1] is really funny. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 00:07, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bluegoblin7 is in the process of implementing a plan to maintain the number of queues at two, so that is why there are only three in use at the moment. Tomorrow, when the update is done, there will probably be only two in use. Osiris (talk) 00:16, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Alright thanks. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 21:02, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rainbow flag (LGBT movement)

Okay. I happened to have walked in the Rainbow flag article and released the languages link were related to the gay flag and I saw that the LGBT movement had a section in the Rainbow Flag. I though to myself well this isn't right since they are not related and they mean two different things. So I filled the redirect and now I just stumbled upon the talk page and apparently the Rainbow flag redirect had a discussion, but (well it makes sense I you read it). I'm not sure what to do. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 21:40, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What you've done looks fine to me. Although the section Rainbow flag#Gay pride movement (1978) still needs a short summary, so you could restore at least some of the information that was there. Osiris (talk) 03:10, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks. BTW, I fixed that John Williams article, but can you also check my Edward Brooke hook. Oregonian added a complex heading (I already simplified it), can you check if it's not complex so that I can remove that heading. Thanks. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 19:47, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It looks simple enough. If he doesn't reply with any specifics I think you can remove the tag. The references are not good enough. The first one is written by a high-school student and the second appears to be a self-published website. It should be pretty easy to find a reliable reference for that claim. Try searching Google News archives. Osiris (talk) 10:36, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 21:12, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I got called away unexpectedly and did not finish these articles yesterday. I hope they now meet the requirements. Readability at 80% and 64% respectively at this time. MySweetMelissa (talk) 11:18, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The {{catmain}} template in this category redirects to a dab page. Are you planning to make it an article instead of a redirect? I don't think {{catmain}} should point to a dab page. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:06, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, oops. Thanks. I'll just remove that. Osiris (talk) 07:19, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Finding duplicates on Simple Wikipedia

Hey Osiris, thanks for pointing out the newly merged pages. I've gone through the items on Wikidata and deleted them.

The list I am working through is at Special:UnconnectedPages. It lists all simple articles that have not yet been added to Wikidata. However, in practice most articles in the list actually just need the page cache to be reset with an empty edit–save. But there genuine cases mixed in with them that are either duplicates, new articles that haven't been linked up yet, and in some cases simple wiki just happens to be the only Wikipedia with an article on the topic. The latter can sometimes be an indicator of notability, but I tend to leave that to simple wiki editors.

It may be a good idea to promote the list on Simple talk. I've got to the letter I so far, but it's slow solo work! Delsion23 (talk) 11:48, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh cool! I didn't know about that page. That'll definitely be useful. Is it updated live? You're up to "I" is that right? I'll be happy to help, I'm amazed there are so many. I'll see whether running some null edits through them on AWB resets the caches. Thanks for the info and all your hard work! Osiris (talk)
No problem :) I find it a rewarding part of my Wikidata work that it helps solve ancient (in Wikipedia years) problems that have been lying around since the early years. I'm up to "I", but I have left a few that I wasn't sure about. Good idea with sending AWB through to give the articles null edits. Hopefully that will work. It would definitely cut the list down to only those genuine cases that need work doing on them. Delsion23 (talk) 12:04, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
K, the AWB run cut the articles down by about 900. I'll have a look at the few at the top and then I'll work my way up from "Z" to meet you. Osiris (talk) 13:11, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's made a great difference thanks :D I'll continue my way towards Z this evening. Delsion23 (talk) 13:41, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Hey, guys, mind if I help with the Wikidata links, too? I'll work on the categories, then take a look at the templates if no one has gotten to them yet. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:33, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, please do. I'll be well over this by the time we're finished with the article list! I responded to your mail also. Osiris (talk) 18:44, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
