Hi Simon, thanks for all the work you are doing here. Would you be interested in becoming an administrator? Please leave a note on Wikipedia:Administrators to say whether you accept the nomination. Thanks. Angela 00:57, 19 Mar 2004 (UTC)

You're now an administrator. Please make sure you read the policies before using your sysop abilities. You might want to keep an eye on Vandalism in progress and the Proposed deletions pages. Please note that the blocking policy requires sysops to set a working email address in their personal settings if they want to block users. Angela 17:50, 25 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Did you mean to protect your user page? I assumed it was accidental and unprotected. Angela 08:43, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Oh right, well it's not up to me to dictate whether you can protect it, but I share Brion's view that it is unwiki to protect user pages. See discussion of this at the English Wikipedia for more discussion and mailing list links. Not everyone agrees and some sysops have protected their own pages at en, but it seems unfair to me when non-sysops can not protect their pages. Angela 21:11, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Congratulations on writing the 1000th article! :) Angela 08:30, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome! 186 edits in 24 hours allows me to deduce if you had kids they weren't in the house. Just started maths and I'll have to come back to it. I used to live in Chester but am in Suffolk now BozMo(talk)

Username not working[change source]

Hello, my username GrahamH http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:GrahamH is not working every time I try to log in - as you can see I have to use the full URL because the username doesn't even register anymore. Is there any way this can be resolved? Unfortunately I don't appear to have provided an e-mail address at the time of account creation. One of the information pages on Wiki informs me that an administrator may be able to solve the matter. Kind regards. 23:52, 29 May 2007 (GMT)

Football Clubs[change source]

Sorry, (perhaps as an American) I'm unfamiliar with the convention. "F.C." is meaningless to me, whereas "Football Club" seems pretty explicit. Why favor "F.C." over "Football Club"? I started moving them because in my random page hopping, I kept coming across this unfamiliar term. Even in the articles it was spelled out, so I saw no reason for the (to me) cryptic names. Kevin Saff 01:18, 11 Apr 2004 (UTC)

In any case, I should have asked you, first. Since you are the expert in this area, I'll abstain from moving these articles. I apologize for any inconvenience. Kevin Saff 21:14, 13 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks, I am quite active in English and I thought Simple English would be a good exercise to develop clear writing and there is also lots to be done here. I have a few questions. How do you determine what is Simple? And does the usage of simple English extend to Talk Page very strictly ? Thanks again Chancemill 07:13, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)

URGENT VANDALISM ALERT[change source]

Simon 194.207.237.27 is vandalising simple as we speak and I cannot blokc the IP address and am getting bored reverting everything. I also cannot delete new pages "arse" etc. Angela isn't answering are you there?

I've deleted the new pages. He seems to have stopped, so I'll leave it at that for now. -- Tango 17:20, 17 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

I've mentioned it on Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress but he seems to have gone now anyway. Angela 18:14, 17 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks both of you. He seems to have got bored about when I noticed him but I was struggling with WP running very slowly on it. I didn't realise there were vandalism pages here too and put a note on the main wikipedia list --(talk to)BozMo 18:21, 17 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Template:SimonMayer0001[change source]

Hi Simon, I saw your welcome message at Template:SimonMayer0001, and also saw it was protected. Might I suggest that you move this to a subpage of your User space (like User:SimonMayer/0001). Making a "personal" template in the Template space is probably not the best way to go. I don't dispute your choice to protect it (though I agree with others that it's a little un-Wiki), only that its protected and in that namespace. Let me know your thoughts.

P.S. I've made a generic Template:Welcome message for anyone's use. -- Netoholic @ 16:54, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for moving it. Netoholic @ 18:18, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Bureaucrat[change source]

Hello Simon, thanks for agreeing to take over as bureaucrat. You can make sysops using the Special:Makesysop page. There are instructions on using this at m:Bureaucrat. Basically, the job involves making admins after consensus is reached at Wikipedia:Administrators. You can't desysop people, so leave a note at m:requests for permissions if you need to do this. Good luck. Angela 02:01, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I'm not sure that I agree with the new name. I understand wanting to simplify it, but the new name has a connotation that the pages are to be deleted, rather than the deletion is being requested and discussed. How about "Votes for page deletion" or "Requests to delete pages"? -- Netoholic @ 04:27, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I think we can get by with using Wikipedia:Requests for deletion. I like this because it's the same name used on Meta (m:Meta:Requests for deletion). -- Netoholic @ 06:25, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
P.S. I'm going to also copy this discussion to the Talk page for future reference there.

I need examples[change source]

Did you just oppose my adminship because of Netoholic's opinion? I need an example of what I did wrong to be this disliked. Wolfj- Friend Of Turcottem and Gracker. Be sure to read my articles, and when you're on IGN, say hi to Matty13624! 12:21, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Gracker[change source]

Just to let you know, netoholic, i am not reporting vandalism from sock puppets, but it kinda has to do with it. Gracker wants to leave the site, but he dosen't want his name to just be used as a "toy" for other people to use it. Gracker is granting me permission to use his user name. now hear me out, i will follow three simple rules:

                    1.i will not vandalize
2.i will not use Jonesc as long as i am Gracker
3.i will write articles that actually have a meaning to them(unlike amphibian visual cortex)

I only ask one more thing from you, clear Gracker's file so people still won't think i am a vandalist, that is, if you let me become Jonesc-Gracker

New Main Page Design?[change source]

Hi there, I have been looking at the main pages of different language Wikipedias and comparing them with the Main Page on this site. As a result of this (brief) investigation, I have made a rough new design for the main page on this wiki - available at User:Marknew/Sandbox. Please could you, as an administrator, take a look and tell me what you think? Thanks, Marknew 10:18, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

A talking area[change source]

Hey, my name is Moonshine, and I am new to this website, pass the word around!!! Moonshine... out. JewishLuvah 19:58, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

email confirmation[change source]

Please go to Special:Confirmemail and confirm your email address, so that people can contact you in case of vandalism, accidental blocks, etc. Thanks. -- Netoholic @ 07:00, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comment requested[change source]

Hi SimonMayer, I don't know how much you are still on Simple English Wikipedia, but I would like your comment on Wikipedia talk:Simple English Wikipedia#Policy issue because you are an administrator and the discussion is directly related to how Simple English Wikipedia is or should be run. It is also related to Wikipedia talk:What Wikipedia is not, where I wouldn't mind knowing your opinion as well. Thanks! --Cromwellt|talk 20:59, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Complaint[change source]

You seem to be an admin... I'd like to complain about User:Netoholic about his irrational behaviour concerning a spelling dispute. See his talk page ("Basic English, again") for details. DenisL 15:43, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
