From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome, to myself!

Hello, Tdxiang/Archive 1, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing! -- 贡献 Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 08:05, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

WoW

It's not really a problem over here, and we have the {{sockpuppet}} template. Also, I don't really know what could be achieved by identifying the sockpuppets. Thanks, Archer7 - talk 11:32, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Nice

Hello dear ... nice meeting you here, The page Mixed has been re-directed to Mix. I think this (perhaps) resolves the issue. --Bhadani 15:25, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Reri Horlockon sockpuppet

Reri Horlockon's account has recently been a lot of trouble. Basically, he kept being attacked by a vandal operating from a dynamic IP range creating hundreds of sockpuppets. On a closer look, I realised that they all happened when Reri was online, and stopped when he went off. Then the 'good' account started to vandalise as well, so we blocked that too. He has recently come back under User:Miagop and claimed that he had an obvious password and that his account was hacked by the vandal. He then became rather aggressive when I left him waiting. I unblocked him to see what would happen, and within ten minutes of him coming online, User:Reri Horlockon is a loser appeared. We had none of this while the account was blocked, and a vandal can't have watched us 24/7 for the last month.

User:Miagop operated while the IP range was blocked. As there is a lot of evidence to say that Reri and the vandal are the same person, I think he must know how to evade blocks. So, I don't really know what I could do with CheckUser results on this one.

Let me know if you have any ideas about what could have happened, it's rather confusing for everyone. Archer7 - talk 10:01, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Please don't feed the trolls. That annoyance has already been blocked, and so your note on their talk page is not necessary. Please of troublemakers, because it is that negative attention that they want. -- Netoholic @ 16:44, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Sockpuppets

I suspect that they are sockpuppets, if it does go on to cause a problem I'll get a CheckUser. Archer7 - talk 09:49, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Question about certain edit comments

Thank you for pointing out the specific portions of the Psychiatry Article were not in simple enough English. I knew the article needed me to simplify, but sometimes one needs to sleep. I didn't realize you weren't allowed to upload anything until it was in finished form.

Some questions regarding notations you made in the edit history - Psychiatry History:Diff

1) Why did you remove the questions? Can I put them back if they are declarative topic headers rather than in the form of questions? There was not more added yet, but I put them in so I (and others) would have an outline to work from.

2) You said, "Possible copyvio in questions." How, exactly, could they constitute a copyright violation?

3) You made a notation that you moved certain deleted portions of the article to Psychology --- but when I checked the page & history, that was not done. What am I to make of that?

Thank you again. I am glad someone stopped by to take a look at my beginning efforts of my first Simple Wiki article. --I am Kiwi 06:47, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Dear Tdxiang, Thank you so much for such a speedy reply. Thank you for clearing up my confusions. I appreciate your willingness to communicate with me, and to help me understand certain issues. I am brand new - this is the very first article I have ever tackled and I know I have much to learn if I am to become a good continuing editor through the years.

The questions, I realized this evening, reflect my years of teaching and my construction of lesson outline points and the way I would lead into discussions. People always know I have been a teacher as soon as they meet me and talk to me for just a short while. Terrible, eh? Forgive me. :o)--I am Kiwi 07:19, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Reversion

Hello, Netholic. Was there a need to revert an edit on the article Two? Vector was just stating that Two was also a year. Or is it 2 AD, which, at this point of time, has not been created?-- Tdxiang 06:59, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Two is about the number, his additions belonged in 2, which was a redirect at the time. I've corrected it. -- Netoholic @ 07:08, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
thanks :-) --vector ^_^ (talk) 08:15, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

The Colbert Report

While it certainly is a notable show, there was no content there that could contribute to an article, so it was better off just restarted. --Rory096 17:16, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Using You to Answer My Question

Tdxiang, I wanted to ask someone if it is okay to utilize regular Wikipedia articles for Simple English Wiki?

By the way, I'm still going over my "first article" and still simplifying (and on and on and on), but I'm starting to have faith that I CAN learn to make this natural and nearly effortless.

I am enjoying this simplifying so much that I am already addicted. I have sorted out a 15 articles I want to edit - and they are all core articles!!! Kiwi 00:00, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Oh

Nevermind. I thought you said you were Netoholic. --Kimmy 23:12, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for telling me what I can improve on. Next time I will do better. You're a youthful user as well? --Kimmy 21:37, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks fopr leaving the message. I cpoied off your navigation thingy is that okay, Tdxiand? I'm creating a User reverters patroll. Once it's done and like to know if you want to join? --Kimmy 20:19, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you

Tdxiang, you might not have any idea how good your note of appreciation made me feel. *smiling*

I recognize that SE is newer, few people, lots of work for everyong, so when I REALLY feedback again, I will ask someone specific (or a couple of someones) to take a peek and tell me what they think!!

Knowing I am ontrack, I am all fired up to start editing again!! Onward and upward!! -Kiwi 01:09, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

RE:Reverters' patrol/Anita

Tdxiang, my friend, would you like to help? First few weeks into school in America and you get a 15 page essay on the states, a five page speech of politics, 45 qouestions of formulas (and I have to show all my work), a report about my dog, Frido, writing a report studying the basic skills of life (which prafctically means I have to hear my sister ranting, my Mother yapping on the phone, my Dad making bets on which baseball team will win, my other sister, Daiva making lectures of math, English and Science problems, and listening to my brother stocking "hot" teenage girls), and an English exam on literature reviews. I'll try being nicer but sometimes, they really get to my nerves. I do not know "Anita." I'll talk to you later, I have to take my dog out for its nightly walk in the park. --Kimmy 03:21, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

hello

JES, I use VF....why I must subst my signature....I use the template {{User:Vector/firma}} because is too long...--vector ^_^ (talk) 11:34, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Subst...

I'm really not inclined to use subst on user talks, since they do not have really high readers as main namespace pages, they are not changed every minute and so can take advantage from cache proxies. This is also a way to make new users aware of the template existence and it helps in keeping pages cleaner and lighter. Just my 0.02, of course. --M7 10:13, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

simple english definition of 'wet'

I suppose I stumbled into your project to define the BE850 list? Looks like a great idea, I've tried to write this comment in all BE850 and its not easy! Rock on! I suggest using the word "water" when defining wet.

'Request for delete' comment

Most often when I am RFD'ing articles (as the one that caused your reply), it is obvious spam or not notable (Jim Smutnik - Jim Smutnik is my best friend (for example)). As per the RFD page I can't find it justified to list every delete:

It is only necessary to list here under unusual circumstances. Tagging for deletion is sufficient

If they are strange, unusual or remotely debatable - certainly an entry is needed. New pages by IP users with no content of note, flaming, or spam though just doesnt seem to apply. -- Creol 12:46, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

socks

I do not have checkuser, so I don't know and it doesn't matter to me, it is more important to punish anyone who is vandalizing. But I have to go to bed soon so if they come back, you may have to get an emergency sysop to come in and clean house! Blockinblox 03:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't know how they handle it at meta, I think sometimes they send someone in with steward ability who is like a sysop on any wikipedia, and other times they make someone a temporary sysop who is only authorized to block vandals and rollback vandalism. I think the place to ask is m:Requests for permissions but I could be wrong about that Blockinblox 04:05, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Not happy

I dont know what's happening, but I am annoyed about the chess warning thing, since there is no consensus about whether the coffee lounge should be kept or not, and there is also no agreement if chess is disallowed on Wikipedia. The warning on my talk page is just plain ridiculous, since I don't see anyone else agreeing with the idea of not playing games. Can you reply me back soon, pleaseee? Not happy at all. Adminship

Nope, you don't need it to be unanimous. Just enough votes to show that the community wants you. Then, if the bureaucrat has any massive concerns, he can choose to postpone it for a bit until issues are resolved. It doesn't really come down to number of votes, so long as you have a few of them and the majority are 'supports'. Unless there's any major opposition you'll probably be promoted within the next few days I'd say. Archer7 - talk 10:27, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I want you to know that I do not intend to promote you to adminship. This war that you had with a vandal/POV warrior was enough to convince me. Do not fight with vandals. It is OK if an article sits vandalised for a short time. You should be spending your time trying to email admins rather than fighting with the vandal. Someone looking to become an admin should know this procedure, because it is documented on Wikipedia:Vandalism#How to fight vandalism. It does not say to immediately go to meta:requests for permissions and ask for emergency promotion. -- Netoholic @ 21:35, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
I'd like anybody to know that, should this user have community consensus in order to get adminship, he will get his flag set. Netoholic is supposed to be a (one of the) bureaucrat here, not the Master. --M7 21:50, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Netoholic, it does not say in Wikipedia:Vandalism to not war with vandals. Instead, it just says to report them to administrators. Besides, if an administrator is on the way, what is the harm in fighting vandalism? PullToOpen Talk 00:06, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Fighting back and forth with vandals only encourages them. They are children that want attention. One can see the evidence that revert wars do not help anything. Tdxiang did not stop the user(s) with his 10 reverts... it was the admin blocking the user that did it. In this case, it was not even "pure" vandalism - the edits were porbably not correct (they were expressing their POV), but not totally destructive. -- Netoholic @ 00:50, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

After this discussion on this veto, a dicussion on this was put up here.

Too bad...

I am sorry that your request for adminship was not successful. I believe you are an excellent editor and will support you whenever you run again. (This might also might get overturned later, so don't give up yet!) PullToOpen Talk 02:49, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

User:Darcarus

Don't bother with the troll. Let the admins deal with him. I've already learned to ignore him. Cheers! zephyr2k 05:12, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

He'll be back on another day with another new account. Just ignore anybody who trolls me. Chances are, it's the same person. He's been at it for about a month. He seems to want the attention. Maybe that way, he'll stop making vandal/troll accounts here in Simple WP, or at the least perhaps move on to another user. Preferably the first option though.

marking articles for deletion

If you mark a page for deletion, please just add the {{delete|reason}} tag at the top, so an admin can more easily see the content you want deleted. The only exception for this is copyright violations, and perhaps "explicit" content. Thanks. -- Netoholic @ 05:34, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

failed adminship

Sorry if my oppose vote kept you from becoming an admin, but I try to make my admin standards here close to my EN standards. I guess I'm just one of the hard ones to please. ^_^ Give it a while and I won't oppose and some more and you'll have my support. Show that you're knowledgable of policy and guidelines, have the best interests of the project at heart, and that you're a role model when it comes to conduct. Sooner or later, I'm quite sure that you'll be unopposed. Cheers and best wishes on your next RFA! zephyr2k 07:22, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry

I am sorry to hear that you were not promoted to admin. Please do not feel bad about it. Look at my [first candidacy. Look at how I basically was not promoted because of the concerns of Freshstart. I thought you said that you "understand" and "do not hold anything against you". The same is true of me, I think you were not very qualified and made some recent bad choices.
