I am not a brand new user as you might think. I had made the account on English Wikipedia back in June 2011 and started here on Simple English Wikipedia in November 2011. Your pointing that "I need to sit back and watch things happen" just isn't good. Sure you might be an Administrator and a Bureaucrat, but that does not make you or anyone else in that matter above any User of the Community as we all are equal here. And i wasn't telling anyone about how to do things, I was just kindly informing so that a Bureaucrat closes the RfA whose time was up. There was really nothing wrong in this request. Actually that does still make you a new user other than 3 edits in February all your edits are from this month. That makes you new to Simple wikipedia. What you have done, or do at English wikipedia is a completely different matter as we are a completely different site. And your messages here a number of times have come off as telling people how to do things when you are still very much a brand new user here and are pretty patronizing. Protection request

Creating cats for sockpuppets?

I've been working on clearing up redlinked categories that have things in them. Quite a few of them are for sockpuppets of various users. An example is Category:Sockpuppets of LouisPhilippeCharles. I think it's generally a poor idea. There is the checkuser wiki that can be utilized for those that need to use that, but I still feel creating the cat is a bad idea. When you go the red link category you see all the pages that are in the cat any way. So why create it? Just to turn it blue. I wouldn't do it, personally. Well, I created a few of them. The main reason I even pay much attention to the redlinked categories is that I find a lot of articles that have only red categories. Armenian Genocide

Second time a unidentified user has added information that is not acceptable, I changed it back again. Only thing is, it has gone unnoticed for a couple weeks or months before, I was wondering if someone can help watch the page Armenian Genocide to prevent future vandalism. Bot requested deletion due to vandalism

I created List of American films of 1991 (with correct referencing to the English Wikipedia page) and as soon as I saved the changes, a bot requested deletion due to vandalism. The bot is a bit touchy with new accounts.. It tends to over react some times. Not sure which trigger it hit though. Could be the number of links has a limit as that article is by its nature a collection of links. --Creol(talk) 09:25, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

I reverted the bot, moved the article to it's proper (local) name and (Thank god for AWB) converted all 182 of the "film"(s) to "movie"(s) as well. And since it was me doing it, cats obviously got touched up as well.. --Creol(talk) 09:39, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

New alternate account

Hi,

I mentioned my plans before, but just want to be clear. I have set up an alternate account at User:ELTted. If it is alright, I'd prefer not to link from that alternate account to my main account. Of course, anyone could find the connection with a little digging, but I'd rather try to keep them somewhat separated. That userpage has some real-world identifiers, contact info, and the limitations I plan to use the account under. I've also listed it on my primary account. Hope that's all OK. I plan to get started with students soon, and have teacher development activities using SEWP planned for June, July, and October.

Vandalism and disruption on another wiki: What should I do?

I was cleaning up more of the incorrect location links of User:Nameless_User's and user:Japan_Football's (one and the same?) sub-stub footballer articles when I noticed that many of them now show incoming interwiki links from Fiji Hindi. Hmmm... Odd, I thought. Had a look and user:Japan_Football has set up shop over there on a basically unattended wiki and spamming it with hundreds of copies of these stubs. See His recent changes in context of the general New Changes and no action on the Admin Noticeboard.

I know every wiki works independently, but it seems JF has taken a break here to spread his useless stubs there. They have only 9,281 articles and at the rate JF is going they will be over-run by nothing but minor J-League players in no time. I seem to recall a place for cross-wiki vandalism, but not sure where. Any advice? Thanks, Gotanda (talk) 08:00, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Interesting. He obviously doesn't speak the language, since he's only translated the obligatory opening sentence for each page. Unfortunately though, there's nothing to stop him unless the local community objects, since it's not obvious vandalism or advertising. Hifwiki only has one admin, so maybe contact them on their talk page or email them. You can also bring it up at m:Stewards' noticeboard. I think it's fairly obvious to see why this might become a problem for that wiki given its size (both in terms of articles and editors), I recommend bringing it up at the Stewards' noticeboard, where they can decide whether a global lock is in order. Someone please block this user. He's being purely disruptive: edit-warring, repeatedly inserting copyright violations, removing attribution templates, making personal attacks and evidently abusing multiple accounts and IPs.

In the past 24 hours he's made 6 reverts to "his" article Waheed Murad. He's attacked several editors, calling them "biased" and telling them not to get "personal" while labelling Auntof6 "childish" and me "immature".

He was given a strong warning earlier by Pmlineditor, who he's now labelled a "sock" and has gone on a rampage reverting Pm's edits to various articles.

Dinosaur deletions

Thousands of dinosaur images were deleted from Commons, and then from dozens of wikis by CommonsDelinker. The grounds for these deletions were spurious, and some heavyweight admins on en.wiki and commons.wiki weighed in overnight. The deletions have been reversed on en.wiki and CommonsDelinker is temporarily blocked on en.wiki. We should do the same here. Threads Commons:User_talk:Fastily#Dinosaurs and then here. I personally don't have a problem with it being done on users who have left. This is done fairly often on en.wiki. No need to leave a talk page open for a user who isn't going to be around to talk anyways. If he were to come back he would definitely have to unlock it. That being said its not like his page was getting much vandalism. Creol permanently retired that was why it was done. Which is of course a very different situation than Baseball Bugs who is an active editor who needs to be able to be contacted. Multiple accounts for a group, or remove the IP limit?

I will be conducting a workshop next weekend to introduce SEWP to language teachers in Japan. I expect most of the participants will not have accounts. I will ask as many as possible to make accounts. If teachers make their own, they may be more likely to continue to edit. But, I don't want people to be locked out. If I get the IP address of the school, could the limit on new accounts be temporarily lifted? Or, and probably much easier, could I request a block of usernames? Updating list pages

Should there be a list of list pages which need annual updating? I ask this upon finding List of most visited art museums in the world is two years out of date. We might consider having a named administrator to supervise the updating process. Macdonald-ross (talk) 16:31, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

I think as long as we have a dated reference, this isn't a huge problem. It's not only list pages that could use frequent checking, though. There are a lot of pages that say, "Currently...", followed by various kinds of things. We have a template called {{update after}} that might be helpful here. en:WP:DATED also gives suggestions. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:45, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

And because of the small number of users around to update these kinds of things, we should try and discourage using time references like "currently" that are going to make the data go outdated very quickly. Just use "as of" or something similar. Osiris (talk) 01:20, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm afraid so. Adding the tracking template {{nobots}} to the page might ward off the bot, but that depends on whether it's in the bot's programming. Try to get one of your students to test it out because I would be interested to see... If not, I'm afraid they'll have to wait until they're autopatrolled (4 days and 10 edits I think it is)... Croatian Liberation movement

I'm concerned that the recent decision to close this discussion as "keep" does not reflect the content of the discussion. Almost all the keep comments were by unregistered users who have made no prior contributions to this wiki; almost all the "delete" comments were as strongly worded as they could be, and were from editors with a great deal of experience. The admin who closed the discussion had, however, expressed views in favour of keep. I request a review of this decision by a disinterested person. I saw that this morning, the topic was still unclosed, as of today, it was sitting there for ten days over the "closing date". I am aware that the party, nowadays is a "minor" political party, probably without much influence. Given its roots and history, I still think the party is notable; I am aware that there are probably issues we have with the current sourcing of the article, but this is independent of notability issues. I am sure no one would object if people created articles about the Prohibition Party, the Communist Party USA, or the Peace an Freedom Party. All of these are parties form the United States which are not in the big two or three today, but which have a long history. I was aware that most supports came from editors who were either IP's or who weren't active beforehand on this Wikipedia. What I can propose is to help review the statements and sources, and to rewrite the article to eliminate doubtful sources and statements. --Eptalon (talk) 13:34, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

It was left open cause it probably needed more time...but that being said, what it needs is to be outright deleted or stubified to clean it up...pretty much the entire thing right now is in a dubious state. Its notability was never questioned that I can see. That wasn't what I nominated it for. I nominated it as an attack page, because that's what it was at the time. It's gotten marginally better, but the issues with editorialising, weasel words, improper usage of sources, etc - are all still there. And with it being very much not simple, I would personally scrap it and rewrite the whole thing based on the English version. Angelina Ballerina: Next Steps - cast changes

Hello -

Someone keeps posting that two of the characters on Angelina Ballerina: Next Steps are voiced by Hilary Duff and Justin Bieber. There is no verifiable proof that is the case. I have changed this posting multiple times to erase these names, only to have someone post the names again. I have posted a talk saying there is no proof, but someone keeps making these changes.

New editfilter to detect spambot edits

Hello,

I have added a new editfilter, which scans the change summary, and the added text of articles for terms which have been used by spambots. So far this wiki has not been hit by editing spambots. In other wikis such bots are becoming more and more of a problem; basically, they "push" advertising into wikipedia. Edits the filter identifies will be tagged with Spambot edit?. Even if we do not have any positives at the moment, the filter can help detect spambots, which can then be blocked. I would suggest we leave the filter enabled for now, even if this wiki has largely been spared. I know. so far, all hists have been false positives. This filter also incorporates search terms from the resp. EnWP filter. According to what I hear from the enwp people, the filter has about ten percent false positives. The filter currently has 4 hits. Would it be possible to semi-protect this page? It continues to get edits that are way off on dates. These edits seem always to be done by IP editors. It must be the same editor, as the nature of the changes are always so similar. I check the reliability of some changes and revert where necessary or possible. I jut wonder whether if we protect it, he or she will create mischief elsewhere. His recent contributions to the English Wikipedia (in the last two or three days) make me seriously question the integrity of this editor. I really don't know what to make of the changes. There are two different IPs that have been doing most of the questionable changes. (They could, of course, be the same person.) The only place I know of to get this information is IMDB. Does IMDB have the air dates? If so, we can construct the list using that information I guess. It's a less-than-ideal souce, but it's better than nothing (nothing being what appears to be being used by the IPs). It's just a list of data, so it really shouldn't be changing at all. I am drawing the kind attention of Admins about above mentioned Wikipedia Article.After I have submitted the Biography which was about the youngest commander of operation jackpot of Bangladesh Liberation war of 1971. Its to be noted that the above said biography is written on commander Aminur Rahman ,Khosru and the naval commandos of Bangladesh who destroyed 6 ships in operation of Mongla on 15th Aug,1971 under the command of Aminur Rahman,Khosru.As per regulation of Wikipedia Military Persons Biography which could be prserved in wikipedia which says that a military persons biography can be saved as Wikipedia Biography article,if the person has commanded an operation which remarkable.Its the clause no 5 of Military persons Biography prservation regulation of wikipedia. After submission of the article the article was very soon posted in Wikipedia. I was editing factual mistakes of Bangladesh Liberation war and I was noticed by Future Perfect at Sunrise not to Edit article without sources on 25th JUly,1971.I was blocked for 31 Hours by FutPer at Sunrise.After my block was over after 31 hours,I was editing another article,Operation Jackpot.Here I would like to say all my edit were with sources and references of books with ISBN Number. I was given further 48 hours block.In the mean time Article Aminur Rahman,Khosru was tagged as PROD by Futuperf at Sunrise with a Limitation of deleting the article with in the 6th Aug,2012.Since I was blocked that time neither could I refer any thing to that article nor I could edit any article.So I could not give sources and references to that article.My block was overon 6th August2012 at 16.00 Hours.Just on 16.05 Admin Futper at Sunrise deleted the article Aminur Rahman,Khosru from Wikipedia. On 9th Aug,2012,I went to his talk page and requested him to reinstall the article. I also appeal to reinstall the article in Un deletion page.Today I saw that my appeal was reviewed by Admin Graeme Bartlett at 16.00 hours and he reinstall the article Aminur Rahman,Khosru at 6-20 A.M.Right after that Admin Future perfect at Sunrise went to article Operation Jackpot at 6.27 and changed the whole article Operation Jackpot brought back the article Operation Jackpot to the Edit of May 2012.He did this very intentionally,as he have seen Article Aminur Rahman;khosru is again been reinstalled and as he has seen that many references of Article Aminur Rahman,Khosru is refered from Operation Jackpot so he immediately decided to revert the operation jackpot to previous Edit and Admin Futperf at Sunrise at once re deleted the whole content of the Article Aminur Rahman,Khosru,which was reinstalled through an appeal by Admin Graeme Bartlett today. Not only that Admin future perfect at Sunrise,immidietly tagged the Article Aminur Rahman,Khosru as article which is without reliable source,poor article and deleted the content of the article very intentionally and changed article content from top to bottom.Not only that,he has written singel line article himself , its also written by him about a new port in Bangladesh as Bangla port,I am sure there is no sea or river port in Bangladesh in the name he quoted in article Aminur Rahman,Khosru.This mornning Admin Graeme Bartlett reverted the article to the original version following this the article has again been reverted by Admin Future perfect at Sunshine in Singel line which is not at all a part of article.He has further Tagged the article for deletion and allowing any one to edit.But while I am trying to edit he is rverting the edit to that singel line article which is written by him. I am drwaing the kind attention of honourable Admins to revert the article to orginal version and protect the same. It all together means that an article,after appeal and reinstalled by another Admin can be very well be changed by the same admin who deleted the article first.Then my question is what is the necessary to Appeal?This type of activities of Admins clearly proves that there are Wikipedia regulations but these can be over ruled by the Admins like Futpef at Sunshine at any time. It also mean directly that Wikipedia regulation and guidelines are for poor editors like is applicable till last dot.It further mean that all guidelines are for readers and editors. I would request to all honourable Admins to look into the matter and take possible steps in order to stop such activities once for all.I very much fear that Admin Future perfect at Sunshine shall find some way impose block on me for Indefinite time. Hi, not sure if anyone needs to know this, but I've never seen this before. When saving a change to Soft tennis, this error message appeared.

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

This one is rather complex. He's been putting up pages like Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa and Galba which are a) incompetent, but more seriously, fairly obvious copyvios. I'm certain these are copy-pastes from a web source, and they were left unwikified, unreferenced and unacknowledged. The first one is still up (with flags), the second is in the Galba history (do see the state the Galba page was left in!). Galba has been reverted back to a redirect. There is other minor stuff, like inserting recursive links, and rushing ahead after he has been told there are problems. He may be someone who can be taught, but he has not communicated, and I sense an obsessive person who needs attention. Anyway, I guess Chip & I will be happy with whatever you decide. Okay, but unless there was another IP talk page to which you gave warnings earlier, then this user hasn't been aware of any of these issues. The only messages on their talk page are top-level warnings for vandalism, and this isn't vandalism. I see the formatting issues with images on Galba. I don't see any major copyright problems, although an online search shows the addition to Galba was taken directly from en:Galba. The only thing this user has added to Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa is an infobox, and the content there doesn't have many of the telltale signs of a copyright infringement.

So, I can't take any administrative action. I would recommend educating the user about the proper way to import content from another Wikipedia, and perhaps also request sources if you feel the need. The image formatting just needs a pixel size specified in the markup, so a quick note on that might also be necessary. As I am now capable of being active (well, semi-active given my past history.. shouldn't be pushing the same level I have in the past but active enough) and I stepped down in good standing (we don't have a written rule on it just a random mention here and there so defaulting to en: policy on admins stepping down in good standing), I am requesting re-flagging of my previous admin. Admin alone is all I am requesting unless a need is seen for other previous rights (B'crat, CU) to be also included. We do actually have a written rule. WP:Inactive administrators. If you step down and are gone for more than a year you do have to go back through Rfa to show that you know how the wiki has changed in your absence and that you are aware of any new policies/guidelines. When you dropped your admin bit and left I believe it was more than a year between when you left and then edited again with your Creol account. (Jan 2009-May 2012). You are correct that any admin in good standing can ask for their flag back if they have given it up, however, that only applies if they haven't also been gone long enough for our inactivity policy to kick in. -DJSasso (talk) 11:44, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

No big, doesn't really matter if I have it or not. Although, the fun with policies is playing with them. Key point here is that that policy technically does not apply as writen:

1. I was never inactive as an admin. When I went inactive I was no longer an admin.
2. I have over 100 edits (1400+ on a self-identified IP) in the last calendar year (2011).
3. I have obviously more than 0 edits in the last 12 months (17K+ edits on Cre alone in the last 12, another traceable 2K+ IP edits)

In a nutshell, that policy is about inactive admins, yet I was never an inactive admin. I went from (highly) active admin directly to former admin and then to inactive user. Also, even if I were an inactive admin, the requirements for edits to not be considered inactive were met. But that's just playing with what the rule actually says and has little bearing here. I would note I too think the Rfa would just be a rubber stamp but the community and wiki has changed a lot since you gave up the tools in 2009. But when other admins have asked for the bit back we have said yes or no based on that policy. Because the idea behind the policy for inactive admins is that they will be unaware of the changes that have happened since they were last active. Situation would be the same for you. Probably a spirit of the law vs a letter of the law thing. As for the number of edits etc you had 0 between 2009 and when you came back in 2012 (on your named account) so you would have had your admin rights removed had you not given them up yourself. If we were to just give them back to you no questions asked that would give a giant loophole for people to avoid their losing the flags by giving them up before the Jan 1 deadline and then asking them back during the next year because they would have given them up before they lost them. -DJSasso (talk) 17:25, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Actually, that loophole would not exist as they still could not point to 100 edits they made in the last calendar year. If they only edited 40 times in 2011, stepped down on December 26th, and requested the mop back in April 2012, their last calendar year would still not meet the requirements (and possibly they may not meet the requirements for last 12 months either). While they were not an admin when they went inactive, the second their bit was flipped they became an admin with less than 100 edits in the last calendar year and qualified to have it removed. Spirit/letter is always interesting to deal with as it make the law both flexible and adamant at the same time. Adamant: This is what it says - edit in the last 12 months, 100 edits in the last calendar year. Flexible - It was designed to deal with the mass of admins who got the flag, editted for a while then just wandered off never to be seen again. As the main author of the inactive admins policy I can say that it was designed to get-rid of dead-beat admins. I didn't think Creol would have come back and I would personally just give it back to him because he has been active for months now and knows what's changed, but I can understand why no exceptions should be made. Dear Wikipedia;

Wikipedia has an article about me under "Donald K. Fry." Editors keep saying they don't find current references to me. In 1984, I changed professions, and have mostly written since then under the name "Don Fry." Editors searching for me should use the name "Don Fry." It would also help if the Wikipedia entry made this distinction clear to readers. Thank you.

Hello, I think abuse fiter 12 ("upper/lowercase-only") article needs adapting, in the sense that we also want to permit numbers (either with or without spacing in between). I don't get it - the filter only matches lowercase-only or uppercase-only article text. If something that is not defined in the filter (eg. numbers) are present it will still not match the rule and the article will not be tagged (ie. allowed). Chenzw  Talk  05:39, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

The above editor has been adding colours from Boldprintdesign.com's colour chart en masse to existing colour articles. It borders on advertising. While we have been rather tolerant of additions to the colour comparison section in the past (just look at the IP's contribs and the page revision history), where exactly do we draw the line between inclusion and non-inclusion? One of the biggest issues I see with the addition (aside from the terrible choice of format inherited from many of the color pages) is that certain colors are attributed to just random source. The Xona.com attribs are from a page on a game manufacturers site who took a bunch of color charts and made his own, renaming colors as needed by standards he personally set for them. He even includes "WARNING: This Xona.com color list has modified names, slightly different from the standards found all over the Internet. If you do not wish to use a list with changed names, then DO NOT USE THIS LIST." The Boldprintdesign entries are from a web design company. If the colors are to be listed, they should be from a source that is in some way authoritative. While many of these would likely be companies and corporations, they are often seen as the standard for color definition. Other lists also exist can be use as the basis. X11, Crayola, a dozen major paint manufacturers.. people and companies that deal in color first and foremost, not a guy with spare time on his hands collecting a list for various sources around the internet (unless he ref'd where each entry came from rather than just mentioning a couple lists he used). --Creol(talk) 09:34, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

For the most part, these lists do not add much of anything to the article. In many cases they are actually confusing. When a reader looks at a color and it says it is a yellow-green color(Chartreuse), examples of that color should not be blue-green (Light Lime Green). Even if the blue-green is listed on some list as a version of the base color, including it in the list is confusing. Many of these lists do not even list most of these colors as sub-sets of the base. Also, in this case, the Xoma list does not even have an entry for "Light Lime Green" or "Lime Green Light". The color given (#85EA85) is the 2.5 gamma correction version of the color listed as Lime Green so it seems the editor (Kidlat in the case of the Xoma adds) is also making up new names for addition to the list. --Creol(talk) 09:34, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
