I've copied this list verbatim (and wikified) to Wiktionary:en:Wiktionary:List of 1000 basic English words. It might be a useful minimum words list for getting new Wiktionaries off the ground, too. — Hippietrail 15:12, 2 December 2004 (UTC)[reply]

wiktionary links[change source]

Should I add wiktionary links to the page? Griffinofwales (talk) 00:58, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, especially words that would not have an Wikipedia article. I did a few but they got lost in an edit conflict. Just make sure that the word is on the Simple Wiktionary first. --Peterdownunder (talk) 01:21, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Griffinofwales (talk) 01:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Missing words?[change source]

I'm not sure where this list came from, but "two" and "once" are missing, considering that "one", "three" .. "ten" and "twice" are all there. --DavidMarsh (talk) 05:34, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone fancy fixing this? For whatever reason I can't log in...

 Done --Peterdownunder (talk) 23:14, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All red links are now done. However in many cases links to words on Simple Wikipedia are not the best possible link. For example to link am does not give its normal use, eg, "I am going to bed". This would be better linked to Wiktionary so you get this: am. The "A"s have been checked, and I am slowly moving through the other letters.--Peterdownunder (talk) 00:10, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Only 998 Words not 1000[change source]

The title suggests that it is a list of 1000 basic words but there are only 998 words, I may be nitpicking, but thought you guys should know.

"a" and "an"[change source]

"a" points to an article on the letter A and "an" points to the wictionary entry. Seeing as letters of the alphabet don't really belong on this page and this is the only instance of one I saw upon skimming, either "a" should direct to the wiktionary or both should direct to "Article". Is this page special or protected in some way? I only edit rarely and can't seem to do it in this case.

Dmbaguley (talk) 21:16, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The page is protected as it is one of our key pages. You are certainly correct about "a" and I have redirected it to wiktionary as you suggested. Thanks. --Peterdownunder (talk) 23:52, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This list[change source]

Where did this list come from? It doesn't include all the words on Wikipedia:Basic English alphabetical wordlist. Lights and freedom (talk) 00:10, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alphabetical Error[change source]

There is an alphabetical order error in E, with "everyone" being followed by "exact" being followed by "everybody". Obviously "exact" should come after "everybody". DutchMapping (talk) 16:42, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@DutchMapping  Done I put "everybody" before "everyone". Kk.urban (talk) 16:59, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How comes this list includes "boy" but not "girl"? 2601:644:4385:3320:3CE7:2257:540C:414F (talk) 05:55, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
