William Michael "Hoot" Hootkins (July 5, 1948 – October 23, 2005) was an American actor and comedian who was known for his roles in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, and as Lt. Eckhert in Batman.

Hootkins was born on July 5, 1948 in Dallas, Texas. He studied at Princeton University and at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He was taken to the FBI because they thought he had something to do with the Assassination of John F. Kennedy.

He was married to Polly Hootkins from 1973 until they divorced in 2005. Then he was married to Carolyn Robb from July 2005 until his death in October 2005.

Hootkins lived in London, England until 2002 when he moved to Los Angeles, California. Hootkins died on October 23, 2005 in Santa Monica, California from pancreatic cancer, aged 57.[1]
