Object history
Deutsch: Auf die seit dem Frühmittelalter bestehende St. Galler Tradition in Sigmarszell weist der Bär mit geschultertem Baum im Gemeindewappen hin. Er ist das Attribut des heiligen Gallus. Ihm ist die Pfarrkirche von Sigmarszell geweiht. Der Sprengel der Pfarrkirche entspricht der politischen Gemeinde Sigmarszell. Dem Kloster St. Gallen gehörten bis in das 16. Jahrhundert die Vogteirechte in Sigmarszell. Durch Tausch gingen sie 1591 über die Reichsstadt Wangen an die Reichsstadt Lindau. im Jahr 1661 gelangten weitere Besitzungen im Gemeindegebiet an die Reichsstadt. Ein Lindenblatt aus dem Lindauer Stadtwappen erinnert an ihre Herrschaft.
