I know this is probably one of the older articles we have, but I see some problems:

  • There's no such thing as a right to vote; there are many monarchies, where the ruler appoints the ministers, without the peole having any say in it.
  • The right ot freely practice any religion is limited in many states (most of which have what they call a state religion); probably the same is true for openly wanting to practice sexual orientations outside the "heterosexual norm". Note, many countries already have problems with (consensual) sex outside marriage.

Alongside, we should mention that there are different law texts that provide these laws (no, not just the UN declaration); many of them are customary international law, so they are universally valid.--Eptalon (talk) 19:28, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Fundamental rights"[change source]

The section on fundamental rights seems POV. Different countries will acknowledge different fundamental rights, and it's not the role of Wikipedia to promote one particular view. For example, socialist/communist countries may not allow the right to own property, while the United States doesn't recognize the right to housing in any way that I'm aware of. Rather than "fundamental rights", it would be better to talk about political rights, basic freedoms, and the economic rights, etc. Franklin D. Roosevelt talked about freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear, but not everybody agrees with this. The UN will make statements that, say, nobody should belittle anybody's religion, but in the US, the first amendment protects your right to do just that. 2607:F140:400:A000:E013:86E8:AEBA:C60D (talk) 06:39, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If the UN says something fundamental, we report it. Obviously not all countries follow all details, and some fail by quite a bit. That's life! The page is a reasonable account. Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:56, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
